I've used Mobil 1 in all vehicles for years now and had excellent results. I just picked up a '04 Murano and the manual says "NISSAN recommends mineral based oils." My question is does Nissan have an issue with premium synthetics like Mobil 1? Surely with all the technical studies done on this subject, Nissan surely can't consider using Mobil 1 as a warranty violation!!! Appreciate any experiences on this subject..... TWB

I'd like to hear what the experts say. I just bought a 2003 35 last night.

Congrats on your purchase!!!!

The FX uses the VQ35DE engine, the 3.5l V6 (as you know) and synthetic oils can and are recommended here for use... Personally, i would use the dino oil until your break in period is done... generally people do a few oil changes, and switch at say 9000 miles or so... doesnt really make much difference either way, but i would not switch until at least 1 or 2 oil changes...

Stick with a 30 weight (either 10w30 or 5w30) with an engine so new....

LOL, that is just Nissan trying to make a few more bucks off of you. Check with the dealership once. More then likely a quart of their "special" oil costs ~$4

anyways, i have NEVER heard of a synthetic oil causing engine damage.
