Hello all,

I am proud to say that my Versa SL CVT has 21,000 and no problems to record. I absolutely love my car and even though the wife and I could not agree on getting the 6 speed, I am happy that I went with the CVT. At about 15,000 I put synthetic in the car and have seen increased mileage and better performance in the car overall.

Has anyone else switched to synthetic? Has any heard of issues with running the Versa SL CVT with synthetic?

I am due for my schedule maintenance sometime this month and I am not sure how to approach them about my oil change. Do I just take the oil with me that is now being used? I am sure that this is the case since my friend who has a Z has done the same recently. Thanks all and I appreciate any advice/comments.

As far as taking the car to the dealer for an oil change, bring the desired oil with you, you can try asking for a slight discount since you're bringing your own oil, but don't expect to get as dealers pay barely anything per quart since they buy in mass bulk.

I use Mobile 1 and my dealer charges $15 for an oil change if I bring my own...

I just put my car up on ramps and change my own oil. Been using Mobil 1 in all my vehicles for over 15 years.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the Versa. The CVT has really grown on me.

As for synthetic oil, it's fine - and most folks would recommend it. Under "normal" driving and service intervals, 'conventional' oil would probably be fine, but synthetic's improved viscosity stability at high temps provides just a little more peace of mind.

That said, your transmission has no bearing on the type of engine oil you use, as it has it's own lubrication. So that's a non-issue.

I'm not here to spread conspiracy theories or bash dealerships, but I just have qualms with providing a shop my own oil for an oil change, especially if there's little change in the overall cost. I also dislike the fact that dealerships and quick lube joints charge an exorbitant premium for using synthetic oil - so that's why I do it myself. It's pretty easy and worth considering - you can pick up a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 at Walmart for about $22, add in a $5 filter and you're ready to go.

since you are using synthetic oil, do you change oil every 10,000 miles?
