At what interval should synthetic oil be changed? I recently had my oil changed with synthetic for the first time, but the reminder has the standard 3,000 mile interval. I thought synthetic was good for a longer period, but don't remember how long. I did a search, but couldn't come up with anything J specific. I have Mobile 1 5W30.

Also, I'd like to thank everyone who gave me wheel advice. I have 160lbs. of salt in my trunk and it's helped trmrndously! I went ahead and bought a set of 18s off of eBay that should arrive on Wednesday. Here's a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

When I put them on I'll post pics of that and also the receiver I installed since I never got around to taking pics of it!

I run Mobil1 also, but a different weight. Since I drive the J basically only during the late spring, summer and early fall with a Valvoline/Purolator Performance Max Life oil filter(designed for synthetic oils) my changes are closer to 4000-4500 miles.

I don't believe in extending oil change intervals, REGARDLESS of the type of oil.

The same by-products of combustion are going into the same volume of oil.

It's been discussed here ad nauseum, but synthetic simply gives you a slightly better margin of protection SHOULD something go wrong.

That being said, I use only Mobil 1 in the Q and change it every 3000 miles, regardless.

agreed..... The problem with extending oil changes on the Q or J, is that it doesnt have enough oil capacity to do that... Most cars that have the longer OCIs on syn oil have 7-9 quart capacities, compared to the Q/J 6ish qts of reserves...

Good to know! Thanks for the info. I've noticed my car runs much better with the synthetic than before. Startup in the cold is a lot smoother, too. I've been trying to follow a lot of the advice given here and have been looking for a K&N air filter, but the Auto Zone by my house doesn't have the one for the J. I'll check with Pep Boys pretty soon. I also will be changing my plugs and brakes soon.
