What oil is best for the maxima. I have a 2000 maxima and i put some semi synthetic motor oil in my car and since then it hasnt given me that much performance. Actualy it has demenished performance. I noticed that i do not have as much power as i should ever since i put that stuff in. Rarly when i stop at a stop light my idel gets to be a little low like it doesnt and my car start vibrating. < this has only happend to me twice since i have put that stuff in. Should i leave it to regular 5w-30 ??

My Max has had Mobil 1 5W30 in it for the last 110k miles, and I've never had any problems. When was the last time your PCV valve was replaced?

Synth oil isnt going to make the performance of your car be worse to where its noticable. It's supposed to help the cars. Try now switching to the full synth, and as scott uses. I would suggest Mobil 1. I used this stuff in my 2000 max and it worked great.

The other thing sounds like another problem that scott (maxhopper) has already helped in the possilbe diagnoses.

All of about $10 from the dealer.

I replaced the pcv valve on the maxima. Did not do a thing. I think that it either might just be the throtle body or the engine is just vibrating the car a bit.

Sorry, I didn't mean to have you throwing unnecessary parts at your car. You can remove the piping from the throttle body, open the butterfly, and check with a flashlight to see if you need to clean it. With the crappy gas here in Louisville, I try to clean mine every 10k miles or so.

Do you think it is a good idea for me (unexperienced) to take the throttle body off and clean it??

It's really not that hard, and there's no reason to remove the throttle body. Just get some cleaner, Wynn's is a good brand, and remove the black intake duct from the metal throttle body, push the intake butterfly open (by turning where the accelerator cable is attached to the throttle body), and spray the cleaner into the throttle body. Be sure to follow the instructions of the specific cleaner you are using. Here is a link to cleaning your Idle Air Control Valve as well http://www.moodym.com/maxima/c...l#IAC

Edit: if it's something that you don't feel comfortable doing; send me an e-mail or post up, and I will meet up with you and help you out.
