Should I use synthetic oil filter for synthetic oil?

Another question: The OEM Nissan oil filter is $14. Today I saw a synthetic oil filter for $12 (Purolator brand), I found Bosch for $7 and K&N for $16 http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4 ... iewDetails

Should I keep on using OEM or buy Bosch for half price or upgrade to K&N or use synthetic oil filter?

In my case, if I'm paying more for synthetic oil, why not pay a little bit more for a oil filter that can give me as much miles as the synthetic oil I'm using.

For example, I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance in my Rogue so I decided to go with the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter.

there is no such thing as a "synthetic" filter. there are filters that last 3500-5000 miles, and some that are extended drain that can go 7500+

there isnt a filter made specifically for "synth" oils. yes there are different quality filters - but to really differentiate filters apart, its normal intervals, and extended intervals.

any filter thats claiming its specifically for synth oils - is full of it

Agreed. Basically, just match up the filter with your oil change interval. For example, if you plan to run Mobil 1 full synth oil for 7500 mile intervals, then choose an extended interval oil filter. If you plan to run 5000 mile change intervals, then choose a slightly cheaper filter rated for 5000 intervals. But don't run 7500 mile oil with a 3500 mile filter, for example.

Guys, this is what I saw yesterday:

Image

http://ca-en.purolatorautofilters.net/e ... lters.aspx
Purolator is excited to bring you the next level of filtration from the inventors of the oil filter - Purolator Synthetic. Purolator Synthetic oil filters were designed specifically for synthetic oil users. This high premium filter provides you with the longest lasting engine protection within the Purolator line.

What's different about Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters?
Let's start with the media. The media in Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters is wire-backed. That means there's a wire-mesh that provides extra support to the media so that it remains intact and durable. It's also 100% synthetic so it's designed to work best with synthetic oils. The media in Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters is also 99%* efficient which means it removes 99% of all the dirt and junk that gets into your oil. 99%! AND, it's designed to trap and hold up to 27 grams* of that dirt and junk that could get into your engine and cause major repairs. So what does all this mean? Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters are a long-lasting filter, providing engine protection for 10,000 miles.

Synthetic, wire-backed media + 99% efficiency + 27 grams capacity = 10,000 mile protection

No Slip Grip
Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters feature a no slip grip control texture that covers the entire can, making the filter installation and removal easier!
I am changing my oil every 6000 kms (3700 miles), I don't need a long lasting filter. But if that filter works better with synthetic oil, why not? On the other hand, I have no complaints about the OEM filter. Are they still having cardboard inside?

If you're draining your oil at a longer interval than OEM I would purchase a higher quality filter. One place to check out in Canada is NAPA, they carry quite a bit of stock and might be able to get the brands you are looking for as opposed to Canadian Tire. Their prices are very reasonable for a physical store and often they have discounts (one near me is 10% off for CAA members, not sure if it is all of them).

I believe NAPA Gold filters are made by Wix and manufactured in the USA (at least they were). A lot of people rate them very highly. Purolator PureOne also rates highly. But in order to fit the right filter for your plan we would need an idea of how long you plan on leaving the synthetic in there.

even stock filters now a days can easily last 5000 miles. i use w/e free filter that comes with the $20 deal and drive 5000 miles and never a problem in the last 10+years. if you do more than 5000 miles, than buy the mobil1 extended drain which is 15,000 miles
