I recently made the topic for oil change outside of dealership, not that i figured that out, i want to see what you guys have done

i know some of you said go with regular oil for the first 1 or 2 changes, but the shop i called told me that since the car has 5500KM it should be good with synthetic.

since im planning on goin with mobil1 i would either get the half synthetic or the full synthetic.

What have you guys all done?

I went half synthetic at 3k miles. Just the regular stepping stones i have always used with my cars. Start with conventional, then to syntheic blend, then fully synthetic

As above. I went with semi-synthetic after about 8-9000 Kms, then to full synthetic.

Its a good idea to invest in an oil analysis once you get your synthetic in and change it for the first time:

Chances are your synthetic can last for much longer then your changing it.

yea i change mine every 7500 after i switch to fully synthetic. New engines with fully synthetic can run ALOT of miles before needing changing. Ive done the oil analysis in my last 2 cars. Even at 7500 in my BMW the oil was still 80% effective.

There really isn't any evidence that changing oils quicker is that harmful. However, IMHO, I believe engines like to cope to new things. Such as not revving the engine past 4k to break it in when you first get it, reseting the computer after you do an intake mod, things of that nature. Just a tradition I like to use that has done me well over the years

Just unplug your negative battery terminal for a couple minutes. I will reset the computer so it can relearn the fuel mapping for the added air

Guys, You have to remember how many cars come from the factory with syn already in the motor, ALOT (i.e. Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari etc). They don't break a cars engine in at the factory with non-syn and then switch to syn before it rolls out. The old saying that you don't want to break an engine in with syn is just that.."old". Many people used to believe that a syn was too slippery and would not allow an engines new parts to break in properly. A total myth. I would have put syn in it when I picked it up from the dealer with 190mi on it (drove it from Tucson to Phoenix)if I could have. What you want to do is drain the oil with a few hundred miles on it and replace it. The factory oil has all the metal particles floating around from break in and you want to get rid of that and the filter.

Once you have changed the oil and put a very good filter on it (Purolator Pure One) you can run it for about 7500mi before your next change.

I use 5 qts of Penzoil Platinum 5w30 and a pure One filter. I've been doing alot of oil research over the past few years and IMHO you want to stay away from purple synthetics that make false claims of horsepower gains just by changing the oil.

Feel free to ask any questions

i just went to the shop today, they didnt carry the semi-synthetic, so i just with 100% synthetic (mobil 1)

only charged me 70 bucks plus premium filter

one question, how many Litres/quarts of oil are they suppose to fill? they dumped almost 5quarts in and i wasnt sure how much i was suppose to expect, i thought 3.5l means 3.5l of oil lol

The topic is controversial. Their are arguments for both sides. Their is no clear cut yes or no to it. Just do what feels comfortable to you.

I use Mobil1 full syn for my car from first oil change... I don't know how much better it is, but it is much cheaper for me than the "average Joe" because my family owns an auto parts store.
