I'm going to flush my brake fluid and was wondering what you think of Valvoline SYNPower brake fluid. I've shopped everywhere where I live and could only find no name stuff and prestone. I ended up ordering some Valvoline SYNPower Full Synthetic, because the Valvoline distributor hooked me up with free overnight shipping from their warehouse.

Here is some info:

SynPower High Performance Synthetic Brake Fluid is recommended for ABS, hydraulic drum and disc braking systems and hydraulic clutches requiring DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluids. Its premium, synthetic, low-moisture formulation provides superior anti-vapor lock protection. It has a high dry-boiling point up to 500°F that reduces the risk of fluid vaporization and possible brake failure.

*Exceeds DOT 3 and DOT 4 specifications *For most ABS, disc or drum brake systems *High boiling point reduces risk of brake failure *Compatible with conventional brake fluids

Does anyone else use this stuff? Is it recommended?

That's what I'm using. About 1 year, it's good.

I've been using it for years several years! The specs. are better than anything else I can find locally. I think there are some specialty products out there that are a little better... i vaguely recall some that is blue? But they're not available locally and I never think to order it in advance.

That stuff is good, im using it in my Q (about due for another flush- spring time)... its only slightly more expensive than regular stuff, but nearly as good as the stuff that costs 2x more.

Thank you gentlemen. I appreciate your comments.

I just picked up 3 bottles. Hopefully that's enough. Cost was $35.40 including taxes, but I got a discount and paid $22.02. That's as good as it gets over here.

I highly recommend it!

DOT4 Synpower Brake fluid has gone in both of my Q's and it has worked nicely...I enjoy it thoroughly. Stopping fast > stopping slow.

I used the Synpower brake fluid with my first brake set up with my old rotors and liked it very much.

That reminds me....Does anyone else besides me currently use ATE Super Blue Brake fluid? If so, what do you think?

Yes this is a very good product! Valvoline has a lot of good products including oils and fuel system flush treatments.

Way too many Q come in with tan, brown, or black brake fluid.......most don't even know where the master cylinder is located even after it springs a leak.

I have been using ATE blue one flush, ATE yellow next- great way to keep track and ensure old stuff is fully purged. It is race quality stuff. By the way ALL brake fluid is 'synthetic'. The valvoline premium stuff is just that--premium quality. It has better distillation specs and lower acidity, and should last longer. However, it is not PERMANENT. Only stuff that is is SILICONE fluid, which IS NOT COMPATIBLE with the glycol stuff (regular/synthetic) stuff, AND the SILICONE stuff will allow water to collect (it does not disolve in it). This is what is used in museum and static display autos cause it IS forever.

In the past, I have bought Valvoline Synthetic at the local Wal-Mart - Not sure if they still carry it.

Since I have been doing so much work on my Q I find myself flushing & purging and refilling the ATE Super Blue probably more than I need to, but had decided to stop needlessly doing that everytime I was under the car. Mostly because I do use those brakes very hard at times!

How often do you flush & purge when using the ATE Super Blue? Just curious.

On the coast, if left outside all the time, even 9 months may not be too often.

There is an old post by Q45tech (I believe) where the boiling temperatures of the various DOT4 fluids are posted. Any water degrades these immediatley, as well as forming acids.

Generally the higher the peak boiling temperature DRY, the faster the product becomes contaminated with moisture and the more frequently it needs to be changed.

Extreme Racing fluids may last a weekend, Middle temp versions 6-12 months. Factory fill Dot 3 is usally good for 18-24 months before it reaches 3% moisture.Dot 4 contaminates faster than Dot 3.

The opposite of what many think.

I've just recently made the change from the ATE Super Blue to the Valvoline SynPower. I don't notice a difference. Both work very well and last long enough. I flush my brakes every few months though.
