I accidentally put G-5 gear oil in my trans and it was grinding and throwing the syncros off, so i replaced it with Royal Purple and its better, not 100%, but better that it was before. My question is, what else should i do to it, i know what im doing with engines, but i know little about transmission. Do i just have to give it some time? I doubt it will magically go away instantly once i put the new oil in.

Nah you did damage to your syncros, you can drive it till it stops shifting or do some transmission work. Nothings gona fix it besides overhauling the transmission.

However its hard to say how much damage you did, you could be fine for a while but its impossible to say.

So it would be a good idea to start saving for a replacement trans/pay a shop to do it right about now

Yep. You can buy a replacement for much cheaper than you can get a rebuild done.

I rebuilt my trans and its not hard at all just take alot of pictures and take your time. There is a place in Portland Oregon called Alltrans and they have any new or used part that you could need! I got my syncro and full bearing kit for $150.00 Plus shipping. Not bad!

well, i replaced the oil, and the trans is working better, but now the car overheats. I wasn't before, now it is. Could this be caused by something like not enough gear oil (i put in almost 3 quarts, but not the entire last one) because i have done nothing between now and putting the oil in, or is it just a coincidence that i might need to replace my thermo and maybe water pump

and it only over heats when im maintaining speed, like on the highway or something, it doesn't have a problem starting or stopping, or even at a stop light for a min or 2
