I came upon this on youtube recently and have been interested in it's design and it's practicality. It uses a pull type poppet valve instead of a diaphragm. I think it works by staying open on throttle tip-in to vent boost pressure and increase throttle response unlike a typical bov that remains closed at throttle tip-in. I can see how this eliminates the restriction on the turbo allowing the engine to rev a little bit faster. So isn't this essentially a quick boost leak that allows the engine to rev without boost until later in the powerband? I don't know if this is all bogus on not. That's why i brought it to NICO to see the opinions of the experts. Take a look.

Only difference I can see is the system stays open while off throttle which would cause nothing but problems for a MAF car.

Unless you recirculate it to behind the MAF, so that the BOV sucks in metered air when it's open.

That said, I think this BOV is gimmicky as hell, and even the slightest leak in your recirc piping is going to give you nightmare drivability issues.

Also, that guy has no clue what he's talking about. Spinning a turbo does not put any load on an engine -- the only thing it does is put a restriction in the exhaust.

it's supposed to be recirculated. he's just demonstrating how fast and responsive the valve opens/closes. i think i understand the concept a little bit better. it's open off throttle and when you hit the throttle it rapidly shuts...so for a split second boost pressure is not built up and engine revs a bit faster...

i don't really know what to think - part of me understands how it works and part of me thinks it's a gimmick. i've always wanted more throttle response out of my sr...i drive my friends ka's all the time and they feel more responsive...i don't know if it's just me or what...i mean i can't complain, my engine's making power but response is a killer thing to have...

My SR is open BOV setup and it revs instantaneously the moment I give any type of throttle input.

That little burp in the initial dip in only happens if I have a massive vac leak or timing is off. Ive seen so many SRs that have that initial burp due to vac leak and its annoying. Maybe he should look into fixing his vac leak before designing a new BOV haha.

I have an SSQV, which is normally closed, and I have not noticed any undesireably throttle lag at all, during tip in or straight up punching it.

I feel like "throttle response" is partially rooted in the mind when it comes to street cars, when there are so many variables in play...
