hi ive searched but i could not find a price to repair synchros. Sometimes my car wont go into 1st gear, and theres a little bit of grinding action when i got into 2nd and 3rd so i assume my synchros are worn out. HOw much should i expect to repair the synchros? btw its a 90 fastback 155k onj the transmission

From what I've read, it's usually more cost effective to swap in a new(er) transmission from the junk yard. Someone else might want to confirm, but I believe the 240sx manual transmission was the same for every model year of the car (both S13 & S14).

Of course, you might want to try changing your gear oil before you do anything else. Folks 'round here swear by the stuff that Redline makes.

Just a thought, but are you sure you're not having clutch problems? If you can't get the car in to first gear with the clutch pedal totally depressed, I don't think it's related to synchros. Anyone else back me up on this?

2nd & 3rd do seem to be a bit problematic on our cars. My 2nd gear can be kinda rough on a really cold day.

If there really is a synchro problem, there probably isn't much to be gained working on a transmission with 155K miles on it. You could easily swap in one with half that mileage. There are always folks parting out 240SX's on these forums.

As I said before, I would start with some new gear oil since that's the cheapest thing to try.

Yeah, usually if you are having problems putting it into several gears it is because the clutch is not releasing all the way. It usually ends up being a worn out master or slave

i had the same problem in my girl. It's about a $700 job from the 3 shops i talked to. You would be better off buying a junk transmission and doing it urself, but even if u had a shop do it, u'd come out ahead.

my syncs are bad too. but id rather just save up and do a sr20 swap. fawk paying money for a transmission that gives no added performance.
