struts don't "blow" so to speak. Your car will ride rough over bumps and more than likely make squeaking noises. In other words, it will ride like **** and you will know. Most people change the struts when they change the springs/coilovers since they are inside. I didn't do it on my car and my car rides like crap now.

It's pretty easy to tell.

If it's the front struts it will start to feel like you have something loose in your front end. It will feel like there is a small amount of completely un-dampened play in your suspension. Small bumps will cause the car to become unsettled.

As for the rear. It's pretty much the same except the you won't notice the looseness feel as much because it's not tied to the steering wheel.

You know you need new shocks when you drive over little dips and your car feels like it has hydrolics. *bouncy* *bouncy* *bouncy*

A good way to detect suspension problems is by pushing down firmly on the front or back of the car. Enough pressure to depress the suspension a bit, let off and see if the car goes back up, or goes up and down a lot. If it cant rebound the bounce very well, something is up. And it will ride like crap as stated before.
