When I was driving my newly built rb25 around the block I noticed the oem turbo was whinning quite a bit... It felt to have to me normal shaft play but after hearing it, I wonder if it is normal. with the boost controller turned all the way up I was only seeing like 7-8 psi. No manifold or turbo leaks found. How do you tell if a turbo is back? And if it's bad, what is actually wrong with it? I know the typical oil burning is seals and fins touching the housing is bearings.... But what about a turbo not boost more than its capable of??

Whats everyone take on this.....

it could be louder than normal from overspinning from a boost leak..

SOunds like the wastegate isn't sealing. Take the vacuum line off the WG altogether and carefully roll into boost, note how much boost it will make.

Also see if the turbo spins freely. Engine off, cold, spin the blades/turbine by hand. They should keep spinning freely for a second or two after force is applied. If it stops too quickly, the bearing might be sticky-fied and taking more force to spool :gotme

Might be a possibility. A friend of mine suggested me removing the line to the gate to see what kind of boost I might see. I checked to make sure that the actuator was opening and closing like it was suppose to with compressed air, and everything was good. Also tested the boost solenoid and it works. Allowing air to pass when fully open and nothing when closed.

I did try that and it spins freely.

I found a some what loose clamp at the throttle body. Dropped the car off at the dyno. We will see if that was the problem

Setup made a hair over 300whp but detuned to 275. Tuner said the turbo does sound a bit used up. Good thing for me, I will be replacing the small burner for the big burner :naughty:
