I just saw at Sylvania.com their new signal lighting. It is bluish / silver when off but amber when on. Looks cool to me.

Because the yellow bulb inside the clear corner lamp of the Q looks dorky. A silver bulb will not be visible so it will give the car a much cleaner look during the day. And it will still be legal because it blinks amber.

Sounds like the same thing as the Phillips SilverVision bulbs. Not a bad product, especially for the incredibly-anal who can't have a fleck of amber on their car, but don't want to go for retrofit LED bulbs. :)

God save me from dorkiness! Now where are those decals and fuzzy dice?

I'd buy them. Small and inexpensive aesthetic upgrades are rare for our Q's. Beats buying a dozen donuts for a simple indulgence.

Aren't the Sylvania's they only brand that is compatable with the Q's electrical systems. Has any use tried the Phillips?

Thanks noblebc and good find.

Hey noblebc,

I just called the guys at Kragen, and I be getting them this afternnoon for twenty bucks. I let you know how "cool" they are. By the way, I'm in the process of painting my front bumper, and I decided to "shave" the yellow marker lights. So I guess some may consider me one of the "super anal". On the other hand, I think the total absence of amber on the car will make a big visual difference with minial effort.

why not just buy clear bulbs that dont have the orange coating on them but still light up yellowish?

Definitely send pics.

I have been wanting to go all silver on my silver Q. There is a web site that has a picture of silver side marker lights, but I have not been able to get in touch with them. Q45racing.com

I found a custom silver side marker light kit for the front and back, but they wer about $90 a pair. I guess I am too cheap. It looked like the guy bought a lense from Home Depot for a flourescent light fixture, and used a dremel tool to make it the right shape & cut the orange and red lense off with a hot knife, and glued the clear one on. Sounds like about $10 in parts, and 4 hours of labor. The result is less than desirable.

Here is a pic of the kit at Q45racing.com

Small touches (getting rid of all the amber) really CAN make a big impact on a car's appearance. I did it on my Beetle...all it took was swapping out the front corner markers and the taillight housings. Anything that was red stock, I left. Subtle change, but definitely an improvement on my dark grey (similar to the current "Desert Platinum"...actually the VW colour is called "Platinum Grey") car! I could park right next to another identical Beetle, same colour, but with all the amber lenses; people couldn't necessarily tell WHAT was different to make my look cleaner, but they knew there was SOMETHING there.

Big thumb up from me for subtle clean mods that screw with your mind like that. :)

Jeff,

Will do on the pics, though it may be awhile as I personally don't own a digital camera and not sure when the bumber will be actually finished.

How much is the Q45racing kit? I assume that is not the "cheap" customer kit for $90. From your pics above, those look like there high quality and maybe imported from Japan. I think Fred knows the owner of the site and may know how to contact him. My guess is that they are close to $150-$200 per set, which is steep even for the hard-core.

I haven't decided what to with the red rear side markers. Maybe when I get the pics I'll post a poll. I believe it will be technically illegal to shave them also. What's the function of the rear red lights? Don't they just light up with the head lights are on and mark the rear fender?

I think it would look cool (especially on my black Q) to replace all of the lenses with a smoked grey color and then use very bright LEDs behind them for lighting. I'm not sure about the legality of not having red reflective lenses on the rear though...

I have never recieved a response from their email system. Possibly a bad link, or something else.

As far as the function, I think it is a fed. reg. In 1968, the Mustang had to add side marker lights, and I think that was an across-the-board regulation. I only mention the Mustang, because that is my experience.

I would think, if the lense was clear, but the lights light up red and amber, we would be following the "intent" of the law. I do know that the tail lights still need to have the red reflective lense, in case your lights fail (a common problem in Alabama). But I don't think the sides have to. I could be wrong on that issue.

Here is a pic of the "cheap" ones:

I have the Philips Silvervision PY21W from the UK in my Altima as turn signals. They dont fit very well as the little metal nubs on the bottom are offset about 45 degrees. I made em fit by modifying the bulb holder. They work great. I got em because my roommate ordered them off of ebay and didnt use them. He didnt use them because of the fact that they didnt perfectly fit without modification in his 03 Tiburon GT.

I need to get a digital camera.

Heath,

I agree, smoked side lenses would very nice, maybe even "stealth". Nothing beats a well cared for black Nissan, and getting rid of those yellow markers would be make it even more distinguished. There's an article on an integra forum about "smoking" clear lenses by spray painting a color from the insides. Now the problem is getting nice clear lenses.

I'm with Jeff, the cheap ones do look like they're from Home Depot. Thanks for the picture Jeff. I'll do a search for the guys name and bug Fred for some contact info.

Q45racing still got them available for about $200 for a set of white lenses (4). His name is Freddy B and he can be reached at 909 278-8969. (The site currently need a new web host)

He also has Bi-Sonic (?) sponsoring his '91Q and has deals on h/u from them and Pioneer.

Let me know if anybody wants to split the set. I only need the back side lenses.

I saw the Sylvania marker bulbs at the SEMA show and they are INDEED an improvement over stock.

I'll be placing my order ASAP.
