if you're wanting a good katana, might I recommend Cold Steel, somethimes the overall visuall isn't the best compared to some "cheap" katanas, but the craftsmanship is always better than par, they probably have it on the proof dvd cutting bamboo and rope too:D

lol...get him Matt!

Any special reason you're looking into getting a katana? Or just for show?(didn't know if I needed to start watching for ninjas or something...)

Sounds like someone has seen the movie "Kill Bill". I want a Katana after watching that too!

You can find decent tempered replica types for around $50 if you look around on the internet. I've got three, and while they're not terribly high quality, they're still very good steel for the price.

However, it would probably help if you found some you're interested in and posted them for me to look at... I could probably give you a good idea whether it would be decent or not. There's no substitute for a "test run" however. ;)

my brother gets this catalog called "Bud K" and it has some of what i guess you would call "die-cast"??? swords, like imitation movie swords. he got a pair of short ninja swords from there for like 50 bucks.

you guys are talking more display type stuff, all cold steel offers is functional, you could always spring for a real Katana, made by the traditional method of folding the steel over and over hundreds of times, it'll probably cost at the least a grand for one though:(

For 175 bucks that Kris Cutlery Katana got some fuggin awesome reviews. I'll be picking one up soon. Of course, I still want a real handmade Katana...but that'll come much much later.
