Ive had my car since last fall and its been running great on 10-30 oil but i figure since i regularly warm up my engine before i drive and its going to be fairly hot during the summer would it be ok to make a switch to 10-40 oil at my next change? Ive also been running regular 10-30 castrol gtx high mileage, would it hurt any to use a synthetic or a blend?

Also im thinking about using one of those engine flushing cleaning things, do they f**k up your engine or what? If theres anything worth using, any reccomendations? Thanks.

Flushes are bad...can break loose sludge and clog oil passages...which equals dead motor.

10w30 or 10w40...very similar, so run whatever one you like.

I ONLY run Mobil 1...I'll put up with tiny oil leaks for oil that's 10X better than dino oil.

Mobile one is great, if you're worried about cleaning the engine out, valvoline supposedly has a great detergent package in their synpower oil. I've run both (valvoline/mobile1 synthetic), and will never use regular oil again.

I use Valvoline SynPower 10W40 in all my cars. I used to use Mobil-1 10W30 until I bought a VW Jetta, which requires 40-weight oil. Mobil-1 doesn't have a 40-weight other than OW40 and 5W40 Truck/SUV.

In Texas, there is no need for 0W or 5W-anything with this heat.
