when i was heading to town tonight i noticed that the car shifts itself in "manual mode" right at 5500 rpm's......how come it doesn't let you get any further? i think i remember my 03 spyder eclipse shifting higher than that to avoid damage. i hardly ever have the rpm's that high since there's always stupid slow traffic here.....so since the roads were pretty much empty tonight i was "playing around"!!

well i thought it would do it at like 6-6500 rpms!!! but oh well nothing i can do about it now. i would've gotten the 6mt but i didn't wanna wait for a red one to come in cause it would've been a while. mine was the first red to arrive in this area!!!!! and i took it as soon as they got it! but my next car will be a 6mt....already plan on that. my husband was like it didn't really matter to him and i was like good cause your getting the alti when get the new one in about 2 years. if and only if i get bored with it!

My coupe does this from 1st to 2nd, but the rest of the gears it shifts at 6k.. I have yet to figure out why on that either, If I just floor it in D then itll hammer on just under 6k and stay there *shrug*

Haha, your eclipse had a 4 speed auto. Different with it being real gears over a "fake" gear feeling derived from the CVT's band shifting to different points on its cones. Its all in the a/c's transmission computer about where it shifts. Sure its developed for the best.

My 3.5 shifts between 6000 and 6500 in manual mode. I knowit's not a 2.5 and probably doesn't help you much, but I go all the way to redline if I'm flooring it.

The engine can do more, but the cvt cannot. It can only spin so fast without failing or overheating!

Not necessarily, It depends on how long the stroke is. The Ferrari Enzo's V12 redlines at 8200 rpm, while the 4 cylinder of the Altima Coupe redlines at 6000 rpm. Torque numbers are comparatively higher in cars with lower redlines, because of the longer stroke pattern. Think of it like a pogo stick. The more effort you give going down, the more power that is created to launch you up, however, the method is slower than a short, quick, bounce.

As you can see:

A/C 2.5, 175 hp 180 tqEnzo, 651 hp 485 tq

Hope this helps

Aye, it's different at different gears. The computer shifts "for you" so you don't hurt your baby.

However, I also believe it depends on the situation-- there have been times I've gotten 1st gear to red line. From memory, I believe I was in second and downshifted to 1st, and then accelerated again. It may restrict only from a dead stop. Again, my memory isn't very good.
