I used to have comcast and I had to do the same thing, I didnt have a switch though. They told me I had to reset it when switching from my mac to ps3. Maybe their modems only recognize one port at a time?

Yeah, for comcast you need a router instead of a switch if you want to use your PC and Xbox together.

The problem is how their service works. If it sees more than one device, only one will work. If you use a router you shouldn't have the problem.

You can actually setup the computer as a router using Internet connection sharing. That is how I have mine setup right now. I'll post a step by step Tuesday.

it can be done on a switch.. a hub even, But from what i gather you are saying you try to take the cat5 cable from your pc and plug it in your xbox and it doesnt work until you reset the modem? yes that how it works.

with the router unplugged plug your internet connection into the WAN port on router.. plug your pc's and xbox or whatnot into the ports for LAN.

Unplug your reset your modem and plug the router in and wait for it all to synch upit should work from there

ok that changes everything then..all my advice is router specific.. only way i have been successful on a switch is to have 2 network cards on my pc... the internet goes into one of them. then through windows i "share that connection" with the other network card.. which i have the switch plugged into..see what im sayin? only way i have got a switch to work like that

google ICS or internet connection shareing
