I tried searching all forms of the word. Nothing came up in the PF forum.

To perform the switchblade transition do I need a dealer? I've heard talk of a chip in the key. Is it in the electronic portion of the remote? ---If so, I would just need a locksmith to cut my key and I'd be set?

An idea of what I want to buy:

No blue chip on either of my keys...

But is it safe to order a fob like that? It just needs to be cut and I can transfer my remote innings directly in?

That key looks weird. I don't know anything about it, never seen it before. Maybe someone else has.

Bahh, I bought my car from the original owner. He gave me two keys + two remotes. They look exactly the same. I guess I could call and ask if they are copies?

nope sbk you have the originals, mine look exactly the same and i bought mine new.

Also 2 other family members have 03 maximas, keys look exactly like that too.

SO, towncivilian, either the keys were made different depending on your MFG date, or you have a copied key.

Great, I will order my switchblade now.
Any idea how much a local locksmith would charge to cut?

My keys are definitely original. They changed by year, obviously. Thanks for clearing it up.

i would STRONGLY advise you to consult the dealership before you buy it.
