I did a de-wax, claybar, and wax on the coupe this past weekend and I found some troubling characteristics.

1st- The clear has a lot of swirl marks in it. I have an el-cheapo buffer, but using the turtle wax swirl and scratch remover with both a wool and cotton bonnet only made it worse.

Is it the turtle wax, the buffer, or both?

2nd- While claying the roof, I found what looked like little holes in my clear coat with tiny crap underneath. I had to go over the area 3 times with the clay bar to get all of the brownish crap off. Still have tiny holes.

If I was financially set, I'd go paint my coupe and replace the black interior...or maybe just sell her and get a IP coupe.

When waxing and taking swirl marks/scratches out, you want to use a clean foam applicator. Wool/cotton will only trap debris and scratch it further. I'm not sure what your holes are, but I have spots where the clear coat is cracking I guess you could call it.

But what can't be removed by you can only be removed professionally.

Might be time to wetsand. You know where to find my article about it...

When I bought my buffer, it was like $20. with pads. I threw the pads in the trash can at Harbor Freight Tools.

I went to Wesco Auto Body Supply, and bought a set of "Buff and Shine" brand pads. They were highly recommended by the guys at Wesco. The set of pads was about $80. Cheap pads will give you terrible swirl marks.

Gracias Hombres,

I'm thinking about prepping the bumper myself and then having someone shoot it for me. I'll probably do the same to the roof if I can't get the clear coat problem resolved.

Did you have bird poo or sap in those areas for a length of time? That'll eat away at the clear coat. I have a spot on one of my door handles where the poo made it whitish. I've tried getting rid of it, but have had no luck.

Try dewaxing with dish soap and claybarring. If that doesn't work, it's time for some rubbing/polishing compound.

That should save you some cash. Removing and installing the bumper is the expensive part! It cost me $300 to do mine.
