Remember, Renault DOES own Nissan, so there may be some influence there.wonS14aero wrote:It looks kinda French to me but still suprisingly likeable. I'll take the white one.
I found this website. http://www.nissan-global.com/E...NAULT/silversentra1999 wrote:im sorry but i dont think renalt owns nissan, i read the nissan global site weekly and havent come across this infromation . i think its like the relationship between ford and volvo. certainly volvo dosent own ford. but i do agree that renalt influences nissan as far as design . alot of changes started when renalt came into the picture.
I think this is going to be a car that will have alot of style points. and i cant wait to see some photos of the new redesigned 07' Altima. anyone seen any yet.

Penpen is correct. I wrote a paper on the Renault/Nissan Strategic Alliance a few months ago. I don't have it with me, but I'll cull the more useful bits from it when I get home. But to sum up: 1999, Renault bought a controlling interest in Nissan, and Nissan bought a small quantity of Renault shares as well. Whether or not Renault owns Nissan depends upon your definion of the word "owns." Renault is the controlling entity, and is in possession of more than 50% of Nissan shares. Also, Carlos Ghosn, who was the CEO of Renault prior to the Renault/Nissan Strategic Alliance, is now also CEO of Nissan. Nissan and Renault already share quite a bit of technology. The Renault Clio and Nissan March (Micra) are based on the same platform. They have also co-developed a number of models (three, I think...off the top of my head) for a joint venture in South Korea which sell under the Samsung badge. The Samsung SM5 and SM7 are both based on the Japanese Teanna (shares it's platform with our Altima and sold in Australia with a Maxima badge) and the SM3 is based on the Blubeird Sylphy.penpen-commander wrote:i read that nissan was going to go out of business a long time ago, or something, then renault bought alot of nissans shares and helped them out. renault has been designing alot of cars with nissans and i'm glad to see one come out so sucessfully.
Nissan was struggling throught out most of the 90s. It was a result of too many different platforms and engines and a sharp down turn in sales durning the mid 90 and late 90s. Remember in this country the B-14 Sentra/200SX, L-30 Altima, S-14 240SX, Gen.1 Frontier, Gen.2 Pathfinder, P-11 Infiniti G20, Y-33 Infiniti Q45 recevied a very chilly reception from automotive press and car buyers. Even the Z-32 300ZX which was cheered by the automotive press sold quite poorly when compared to the Z-31. The Maxima which whas one of the few Nissan models that sold well durning that time period was still heavily critisized for its handling thanx to it's beam axle rear suspension. It was also critisized for it's bland styling like most Nissans of that era. This is what prompted Renault buying a controling interest in Nissan.penpen-commander wrote:i read that nissan was going to go out of business a long time ago, or something, then renault bought alot of nissans shares and helped them out. renault has been designing alot of cars with nissans and i'm glad to see one come out so sucessfully.
And Nissan probably would have let any manufacturer bail them out of bankruptcy...Renault just happend to be the ones that stepped up to the plate.repo man wrote:And Carlos Ghosn is a business genius.
