Because we all know we can't appreciate a good story/plot, and that we are so superficial that we can only appreciate the gratuitous violence. The violence is a part of the storyline.
IMO, there are better ways to make a movie than filling it with useless gore and violence. You know why? ..because that **** really happens to people. It's not common, but it happens. Now some actors get to profit and glamorize something as disgusting as that trailor.

Of course there are other ways. That's why there is such a diverse selection of movies. Just because one movie is more violent than another doesn't make the content of the movie is any better or worse. And I already said, in this movie, the violence was not useless. It was an integral part of the movie. And it's not like the Japanese directors don't have a history of creating overly-violent movies. Watch the movie, then tell me if it would be the same if you took all the violence out.

This movie is definitely not for the light hearted or even some of the hard those who are hard to offend. The violence is so over the top in some parts it is laughable, other parts however are extreme. The violence is part of the plot in some parts, but in other parts it doesn't really seem necessary. If you want to watch a movie, that's somewhat understandable, for an hour and a half and then be completely confused by the last minute this is your movie. If anyone here has seen the movie, did you understand the end? I sure didn't.
Ichi the Killer is old news. The movie's been out for over two years, still badass though!
The movie's not all that weird really. It's about an urban loner slash closet schizophrenic who plays out his superhero fantasies by splattering Yakuzas with his special boots that house foot-long blades. The bad guy is one sick self-mutilating, sado-masochist who's slit blowholes into his cheeks. Not that weird if you ask me!
This movie is so over-the-top gory, it's a great way to relax for two hours. No doubt this movie was an inspiration for Kill Bill but it's like ten times gorier (dude get his skull sliced in half and thrown up against a wall and it slithers down).
If you like ultra-violent movies, check out Japanese cinema. Ichi the Killer, Versus and Battle Royale are great fun movies with the later being an important commentary about the pressures of academia in Japan and sensationilism of reality tv.

I've seen it and love it. I recommend it to anyone who likes Evil Dead or Jackson's Dead or Alive.
Anyway, I'm extremely picky and have a highly selective taste in film. Give me sawed off appendages and pulverized craniums and count me in!
