I know there is a seperate sticky post for this, but I achieved such awesome fuel efficiency on my first tank that I just had to make a seperate note of it, and share how I accomplished this.

I drove around town about 95%, with just two short highway trips for fun. I got 660 kilometers which is exactly what Nissan rated the fuel efficiency for around town: 31 miles per imperial gallon or 9.1L/100km. That proves that the fuel efficiency ratings are definately achievable, especially because the engine isn't even broken in yet - it should get even better later on!!

I have read a lot of posts from people stating that they haven't gotten great mileage and they couldn't figure it out why, because this car is supposed to be really efficient. IMO, the reason is that this engine with CVT transmission combo provides you with the tools to achieve excellent mileage IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE THEM CORRECTLY! If you are very light on the throttle, the rpms will stay extremely low around town, around the 1200 to 1300 range, and low rpms is what provides good fuel efficiency. Gradual acceleration, and also gradual decleration/braking is what you want to do, rather than screaming up to every red light and slamming on the breaks, then slamming on the accelerator again when the light turns green. I see so many people driving like this and they seem to be oblivious to the fact that this burns fuel excessively for no reason, and it wears out your brakes faster too!

Whoops, I didn't get to finish that last post.

The point I was trying to make is that if you really want to get good gas milage/fuel efficiency, the Rogue will provide the tools for you to achieve this if you choose to use them properly. Just pay attention to your throttle and braking and don't try to break speed records every time you're out driving, and the vehicle will reward you with good efficiency - AND you'll be helping the environment a little bit by emitting a few less kilograms of carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions.

Also, you don't have to drive like a grandpa to achieve this. Even at low rpms the Rogue still accelerates well because of the good low-end torque that this sweet engine has. I'm 28 years old and while I like to drive responsibly and minimize my impacts on the planet, I don't want to drive like a grandpa and like to have fun while driving, and the Rogue allows me to achieve both of these goals.

This vehile is F@#*&*G SWEET dudes!!!!!

I found the same exact thing with my SL AWD doing exactly what you are. I'm getting much better gas mileage. I was at 22.4 mpg, now I'm up to 26.5 average. I keep the car around 62mph in the right lane on the expressways. It takes me a few extra minutes to get where I'm going, but I make up for that in gas and $ savings.

I have had some people in there Mercedes Benz', Infinity's, BMW's and Lexus' go around me due to my slower than what they desire acceleration, but I don't care. I laugh when we both are sitting at the same red light and I know he or she wasted gas and their brake pads/rotors by rushing up there. Plus I feel better knowing I am not spewing unnecessary carbon emissions in to the air.

I'm now getting more than 400 miles/tank

That's awesome - way to go!

I should have converted my mileage from imperial gallons to US gallons. I got 31 miles per imperial gallon which is 25.8 mpg for Americans! Too bad we have to make things confusing and use two different volume units of measurement, and with the same name even - oh well!!

Oh yeah, my vehicle is a FWD which makes it easier to get good fuel efficiency, so the fact that you got such great mileage with AWD is REALLY impressive. Good job man.

I make a conscious effort to try to stay under 2,000RPM when accelerating from a stop. Makes my acceleration much slower, but saves a bunch of gas. especially city driving when you're just accelerating to stop at the next light anyway.

Just go easy on the throttle, and try not to push it too hard. Which is kinda a shame because the Rogue has more pep than I would have expected out of this type of car, but right now my wallet is dictating behavior when it comes to gas prices

Well if it makes you feel any better, gas prices in Canada are around $1.20 litre ($CDN) or about $4.50 gallon ($US)!

Hi,

I'm not getting the best mileage, but have been using no more than 2000rpm's around town, and stick to 60mph on the hwy.

Best I've been able to manage is about 300 miles per tank, or 19 - 21 mpg. I thought it would be better, but no matter how I drive it doesn't get any better.

Is anyone using ethanol blended gas? Here in Hawaii we can't get anything else. Could this be my problem?

That is an interesting thought, ethanol is a less-energy-dense hydrocarbon, which is partially why it emits less Co2 when combusted because it has less carbon content, and thus less potential energy. Standard gasoline blends have much more carbon content, between 5 and 12 carbon atoms per molecule, wheras ethanol only has 2 carbon atoms per molecule. Anyway, I think the chemistry supports the theory that ethanol is a cleaner burning fuel that provides less energy output when combusted, compared to conventionally blended gasoline.

Our Hawaii gas is mandated by law to be 10% ethanol.

How much more inefficient would that make the gas?

I'm not sure, I'm not an expert and can't say exactly what the difference would be, but I wouldn't think it would be that much worse, otherwise you wouldn't think people would buy the stuff in locations where there is choice, which is normally the case.

Maybe somebody else on here will be able to help us with an answer?

I use nothing but Shell regular gas in my Rogue. Here in my area of GA the pumps state that it is a 10% ethanol blend (E10). I have had no problems burning this blend and still get 26 mpg. I have 12000 on my Rogue and drive it 300 to 400 miles per week.

Here is a link with some good ethanol info:http://www.drivingethanol.org/

I am also using E10 and getting about 25 mpg average, and I'm pushing 3000-3500 RPM on takeoffs.

10 percent ethanol shouldn't affect your overall mileage more than 2-3 percent.

A few questions?

- How exactly are you calculating your mileage?- Are driving in a hilly/mountainous area or accelerate heavily?- Do you idle your car alot?- How many miles on your Rogue?

Hi,

I've been calculating manually and via the onboard computer with exactly the same results.

Downtown Honolulu is not hilly or mountainous, nor are the hwy's. For the most part it is flat. I also try to keep the rpm's below 2000, but need to surpass this occasionally when getting on the hwy.

Idle only for a few seconds before leaving in the morning, but that's about it besides waiting at stoplights.

Have about 2800 miles. Already did the first service at the 3 month mark. We can't exactly put a ton of miles on it because we are on an island.

I've also tried different top tier gasoline brands, but still the same mpg.

Thanks

Well, it doesn't sound like your driving habits are the cause. My first 2-3 tanks of fuel got around 23mpg with relatively easy driving. I would put a couple more thousand miles on it to see if it improves as the engine breaks in some more. If not, then I suggest going to see the dealer.

Okay thanks, I'll re-visit after a couple thousand more miles.
