Well, I just got done driving the Q from Spokane WA to St Louis MO... what a KICKASS first-class drive! Did it with only one overnight stop. Miles soaked up effortlessly (except that damn nail I ran over 15 miles from home)

Now here's my dilemma...

I got my AC compressor replaced a while ago and had it recharged with R12. It has not blown as cold as I'd like, although the climate controls worked fine until reaching 90-100+ degrees in high humidity. The car idles fine, the engine temp is fine, but the darn thing get less and less effective as the weather approaches 100 degrees and 100% humidity.

Now, I sweat my *** off in the car since its hot here everyday. Its okay in the evening with its 70-80F.

I suspect my problem is I need to replace the AC receiver drier to relieve a clog. Anyone else agree?

Thanks,-Jesda

Dirty condenser, dirt between condenser and rad.Accurate charge weight [1.2 kg= 2.6 pounds], over oiled?.

I concur with Q45Tech, over oiled, or even overcharged. Depending on the shop, some places just hook up the tank & come back in 30 minutes, to see if it is cold. Get someone to check the superheat, with a set of gages on the system.

Obviously check the condenser fan, and make sure it is coming on, and look for debris in the coil.

Well, I took it to Midas and they said it was contaminated but refused to drain it. "It will contaminate MY system if I do." Umm, okay?

So I have an appointment Tuesday at Bommarito Olds/Infiniti to have it evacuated, cleaned, replace the receiver drier, and recharged for $400. I'll be driving a 93 Mazda MPV until then. Plaza Porsche/Ferarri/Lexus/Rover/Infiniti wanted the same price but considering how cold and unfriendly they were when I bought my oil filter... they can take their snobbery and eat it.

Contamination usually aoccurs, when the guy fills your system with contaminated equipment (usually some idiot, who forgets that he can't use the R-134a gages, tanks and recovery machine on an R-12 system).

Try to get the dealership to test the refrigerant, and give you a letter, stating what the contamination is. You might be able to get the shop that replaced your system to pay the bill, if it is their fault.

Of course, it may be a waste of your time.

Yeah, what the hell? Take it back to the original place, with an identifier printout from Midas, and tell them to fix their mistake. Remind them of the stiff penalties and fines for mixing refrigerants. If they refuse, contact the EPA and your state's automotive repair board and file complaints with them.

Nah. I had a friend do it. I knew what I was getting into, and the AC was more than sufficient until I moved to St Louis. Well, another case of getting what I paid for. I broke off my damn sunroof switch too, so I'll have the dealer do that while I'm there.

Jesda, no offense calling your friend "some idiot". It seems any time I say something like that, it is always inapropriate. I too get friends to help with stuff like that. This just nails down my decision to not say anything, if I can't say anything nice, even on the internet.

I hope you system is not harmed from the contaminants.

Jeff... no offense taken. :)And Elwesso... as far as the guides... I'll be parking the Q45 most of the time until I get my butt down to Louisville in the next couple weeks, where forecast is going to be doing them. All is well!

YAY!!!

I was looking at your car via the NIOC calander (I cant wait)..... And I was just going to comment on how gorgeous it looked (and in the calendar picture, both of them :D )..... What color is it, black??? Dark green......? Whatever it is, its golden, and it would be a shame to see it go because of the guides.....

Dark, forest green. Seen a couple first-gen Qs this week, most of them black and silver. Cant wait to get the guides done and get another 100k out of this sweet silky V8!

It looks decent, but its not to my standards (which is less than perfect)..... I have a lot of scratches on the trunk, the bumper facias arent too great, clearcoat peeling on a a few of the lower body panels...... Not to mention it was repainted and it was a ****ty job and it is starting to peel in some places........

I want to get it repainted PROFESSIONALLY (IE have all the paint removed, sanded down really good, and repainted to factory color)......

My only excuse for it is that it is a 9 year old, 122k mile car...... It looks good for that, but bad to my standards......
