Here's soon to be installing 28mm and 20mm Q45a sway bars. While I wait for bushings to arrive, I figured I should het started refinishing the bars.

Any advice on a paint to use for refinishing after cleaning and stripping the bars?

Should I use the following to refinish the bars:

1) Baked power coat finish -- will it crack over time with bar flex?

2) Prime and paint with some high temp black engine enamel?

3) Paint with some super rust preventative -- a paint that bites into the metal and doesn't require priming?

I redid the rear sway bar after I got it and refinished it with basic self etching primer and black rustoleum rattle can paint. I just sanded down the rusty parts primered there. There has been no chipping, cracking or peeling so :luck:

If you do go with paint like rustoleum be warned it takes an extremly long time to dry for whatever reason even during summer.

I wouldnt think powdercoating or high temp would be necessary, something like rustoleum that prevents rust would be good.

Or just leave it, you are probably only trying to impress yourself since you're probably the only one under your car anyway... :)

And I sent you the clean one! The one in my garage (still not bolted to the car) is way dirtier than yours... :D

Craig I honestly see this as a good excuse to go buy a particle blaster so you can easily remove all the dirt and contaminants ;)

LOL - well you know me.. I picked up a portable model last fall at Harbor Freight on sale for $19.. I rented a gas powered air compressor that worked fine for the weekend I used it.. I just need an air compressor that is capable of delivering 8 CFM at 125 lbs to really get the air power that a blaster needs. I passed up a great deal on a gas powered rental being sold from Home Depot a while back for $279.. Still kicking myself on that one -- kick - kick..
