It's going to be ugly and raining all weekend long in South Carolina...

I am going to do my front sway bar bushings.... anything I should look out for..?

It seems like a pretty straightforward job...

You just doing the two mounted to the frame? Put some Liquid Wrench on the bolts there first and let it soak. Make sure to torque it to the right spec when reinstalling. Don't forget to grease the inside of the bushings that fit over the bar, helps squeeks.

I think there are four bushings all told... I guess the two that go to the frame.... and the two others in the center of the bar....

6 [2 on each side] where right angle isolated helm joint attaches to lower suspension arms plus the 2 larger ones on the frame.

Good idea to always replace the 4 on the end links as they wear tapered and change the minute clearances before the bar engages..............the bar only moves +- 0.75 " at this point so slop/slack is important to get just right.

How tough are the ones on the frame to slide off and on? I guess that you can cut the old ones off, but is it difficult to get the new ones into place? I am considering changing mine when I do the shocks.

Thanks.... I've had the both packets of bushings for a couple of months.... I never looked into see what's in the two packets... I know the one packet has the ones that attach to the frame... the other packet must have the other four bushings...

I don't expect to get the same bang for the buck as I did with new blues and upper links...but every bit helps... after this it may be tension rods.....

If yours are worn, I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the difference, but of course, only in corners or 1-sided dips and bumps. Aus94Q45, the new ones should have a slit in them for getting them on and off. You might have to play with the wheel height to make things easier.

it's the one sided dips and bumps...that is leading to my decision to do them..

I suspect at 150k , they are pretty worn.... even for an easy driver like myself....

Replaced the rubber.... the car feels a bit more tighter....but I don't know if it's my mind playing games with me....

Yes, the end link bushings were very tapered, and the holes in them were somewhat larger than the bolt....

The rubber still did seem soft and pliable.... I really didn't know how much to tighten the new rubber, so I just sort of did it by feel...

I am sure the car is better for it....the roads here are icy today, so I am taking it very easy...

I was really impressed by one of the members taking the time to clean his plenum and TB this weekend....

I may try that TB thing in the not too distant future....

I have also pulled by bose speakers and they are getting shipped off for rebuild this week.

At one point this weekend the car was in my driveway at exactly 150,000. 90Q.

Tighten the end links to the stop and the spacing will be correct. Just finished installing my 4 rebuilt Bose, nice to have them all working and no pops or buzzing.

Sort of off topic.....

I pulled the bose front enclosures...but just the rear amps....

I think it would be too much of a hassle to pull the rear speakers.... any thoughts on this...

I have my authorization form to send back to Bose

Pull the speakers too!!! You're paying for new cones so you might as well get them! 13-14 year old paper cones are bound to be dry by now. In fact, you might check with Bose - I'm not sure if they'll rebuild a partial assembly. When I asked (to save shipping costs) they said I had to send them all in. I'm glad I did now.

Removing the rear package tray isn't that bad. Let me know and I'll walk you through it if you don't have the manual.

I have the manual ...Heath...and I printed an earlier posting from you....

I got stuck at work today....and now don't have the time to pull the rear speakers... I'll have to do it next Sunday

I sitll have your spare a/c-heater control.... but probably won't dare to come to Columbia until I have the speakers back...

No hurry... give me a few more weeks and maybe "Q2" will be done with her suspension rehab. Another month and it's guide time unless we have a lot of days like today - cold and wet is no fun for working on cars!

See any snow in Greenville?

Heath, I just wanted to pop in and say that you and DAE are the reason many of us have any confidence at all working on our cars. Just knowing you two are a few keystrokes away makes it so easy to dig into a maintenance task.

Thanks for all you both do.

Thanks Hitman! I have to give credit to Dennis for most of what I say... without his posts here and back in the yahoo clubs days, there would be a lot fewer old Q's on the road.

I'm just too cheap to have someone else do a lot of the work, and sometimes too dumb to know what I shouldn't try. Having a dad who's garage is full of tools doesn't hurt either :D

Amen to that, plus credit to Prof. Mike and so many other members too. I didn't used to have a problem paying a shop (a lot) to work on my car. Until I realized that they knew very little about my car and cared less.
