I'm going to attempt swapping the hicas subframe out of my new hatch into the convertible this spring when I swap engines and convert to 5-speed. I love the handling I get out of it so I figured why not. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

just swap sway. i'm not certain, but i think that's the only thing different between the two that would actually affect handling in any major way. well, that and the vlsd which you should swap over as well.

that is, of course, unless you're goign to actually hook up and use the entire hicas system... in which case i'd say, "have fun with that."

i'm sure it's been done, but probably not on a vert. good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress. it will at least be interesting to see how this developes and turns out.

if you're concerned about rust, you should consider sandblasting everything and either powder coat it, POR it, rhino-line it, or paint it. do something to keep it from rusting into trash.

madcow beat me to it, but have fun with that.

sounds cool, i've always liked the idea of all wheels manuevering, i had 4WS on my prelude, didn't really notice much difference cept the turning radius was shorter and i was like a sidewinder when passing people on the interstate. what makes HICAS such a viable swap?

Well mainly due to the fact that I have a mint hicas hatch I'll be swapping everything out of. I mean I know that there is more chance of rust due to the rear wheels turning and whatnot but I honestly love the 60mph + turns I get out of my hicas hatch. I'm not big into drifting so handling is more my thing and if this works out this will be one of the best handling verts out there. I will do a full instructional guide with photos if anyone is interested. Of course its going to be a couple of months until both cars are out of the snow lol. And rhino lining the wheel wells and inner fenders sounds like a great idea. Anyone else having any advice?

It doesn't just effect drifting. It also effects traction from a stand still. Something to think about if you plan on doing any drag racing. I really think this is a bad idea as well.

If you want your vert to handle better I would look into stuff you can do to eliminate chassis flex. That is going to be the major thing that effects your vert compared to the hatch.

As far as rust prevention for under the car I would go with POR-15 or Chassis Coat, both are very similar products.
