Does anyone know if you can swap heads off a vh41 onto a vh45 or vise a versa.

I was looking through mettlers thread zerothread/227562 and can see the visual pics of the different heads (we get the jdm ones here) and wondered if they are interchangeable.

Main reason is for a ITB setup the oval port design would be easier to work with for the setup although may be able to ovalise the siamese ports on the 45 too

Any thoughts

Cheers

Jas

Thats great John thanks heaps very nice job. My only concern will be in making sure the angle of the spliiter is shaped correctly to evenly distribute the airflow as much as possible between the intake valves.

It looks like you split the airflow quite deep into the ports themselves and probably with a good reason.

I will see what my engine builder thinks.

Cheers

Short answer: no.

The heads are quite different in design, the wider timing chain setup of the VH45 results in a lack of material cast around the front of the head, but rather, a wider face that the timing cover bolts to.

On the VH41, the sprocket area is actually part of the head casting.

Just get some 1994+ VH45 heads, they have oval ports.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest.

Thanks for the help again

I think most of the engines we get out here are from the Cima which is mid 90's I think so may just be the later model engines.

Is there any clear way to distinguish the newer post 94 engines from the earlier ones while veiwing as a complete engine on a pallet?

Thanks heaps

J

The valve covers on the 90-93 engines are held on with bolts, the 94-96 valve covers are attached with studs. Also, the CAS is different between the motors, as well as the ignitor chips. The valve covers on the early motors have these odd access plates on them, the late motors don't.

See pics...

Appologise for the large pics, they're necessary to show detail.

The differences go even further, especially once you start digging into them. However, that's the easy stuff to tell from the outside.
