Try asking the people on some BMW forums, they would know more about it probably.

false. a bmw inline six would more than likely fit, seeing as how most m3 enine bays arent much longer, if at all, than ours, and the bmw V-8 used in an m5 might fit nicely, if it werent for the width(DOHC)...but anything is possible with enough money.

Why? To be unique? Why not just buy a BMW. Lol. If you like your Nissan so much, stick with a Nissan engine. If you swap out the engine and tranny, you're not really driving a Nissan anymore; It would be a Nissan shell with a BMW heart.

BMW + Nissan = NMW (Nissan Motor Worken)

I asked about the same thing. I have a 92 s13 coupe. I know for a fact that the twin cam 45 degree four cylinder will fit, as will the straight 6 twin cam. why do so many people diss this topic? Bmw builds really reliable, clean looking, powerful motors. I mean i love the sr,and an s14 that my buddy owns is putting down about 400hp at the wheels with the turbo ka, t3/t4 turbo. The only thing i can imagine is that the motor mounts would be different, and you would need the engine, tranny, and ecu, probably custom driveshaft as well.

Some people are die hard Nissan fans. The thought of doing a motor transplant with another brand is appalling to them. Everyone has there opinions. I could give a s*** what other people think personally.

If you are truely serious about trying this swap, let me tell you first that it will fit.The BMWs have actually less room under their hoods than our 240's do.

My car is proof that you can do anythign with the 240.I am the first and only one to ever do a Chevy Impala SS LT1 V8 Swap into a 240SX, and it came out great.

Are you doing this yourself? if so, be prepared, inter-racial engine swaps are a beast. Yes, anything is possible if you have the tools. Frankly I'm surprised more people in the import community haven't tried this. Some of the issues that you might runinto, Transmission compatibility. Is the BMW rear or front wheel drive. I'm not too wise on beemers. If it's front wheel, be prepared to fabricate not only a transmission, but driveshaft as well. If you get lucky and have everything mesh perfectly when you first turn the key, congratulations. However, I've never seen that happen. It may take a few tuning sessions to get everything running smoothly. If you get discouraged, remember if a 32v Daddylac Northstar can be crammed into the back of a Fiero, ANYTHING can happen.

That eliminates much of the pain. It also learns me something new. I can't afford even one of those junkyard BMW's so I never learned much about 'em. Broke sucks.

You guys are right. It never goes easy. You WILL hav eot get a custom drive shaft made. There is no way arround it because the Nissan connections and U-Joints are different from all others.

Stay Nissan! I know. I SOLD my 95 M3 turbo to buy my current 97 SE. You didn't specify which Bimmer engine you had, but only a 4 cylinder will fit. So think 318ti. The 3.0 (later 3.2) M3 engine will:1. Never fit -the engine itself had to be canted 15 degrees just to fit under the BMW hood. The 3.0 is a HUGE iron block beast.2. Less bang for the buck -stock E36 M3 makes 240hp. With AA turbo kit ($4k), Dinan cat-back ($1k), and various broken bits and pieces ($1k), I made just over 300whp. Spendy!3. HEAVY -a bone stock M3 (not lightweight) weighs @3400 lbs. Porky!4. BMW driver's are snobs. Period. I am a member of the BMWCCA, and they (I guess we) are snobs. Most of THEM can't even drive their own cars properly. The only down-to-earth guys who work on their own machines drive the old E30s and 2002s. Once they found out that I sold my car, I even stopped getting the club magazine!STAY NISSAN. More power, less money = more funYou guys have the best network on the web, and I actually learn stuff here. Bimmer guys pay techs $70 an hour to do the work that you'll do in your driveway.

I can't believe all you guys are so discouraging. Sure it might not be the ideal swap, but look at it in the right way... he wants to use a Nissan chassis.

And just to let you guys know, I have video tape of a guy with an SR20DET powered 325i. Almost the same concept, just the chassis/engine are reversed. So it's not near as crazy as you guys are making it sound.

A BM inline 6 would be a great swap and it should be possible, hey if a mate of mine can fit an RB25DET in his S13 then an S20 BMW engine should fit without too many probs.

I was referring to the S50(US) motor. It's the only one available here that would put out enough power to justify a swap.

what a comical thread lol
stumbled upon this gem as im at a crossroads with a ka24de in my '92 that needs to be rebuild, but i have a wrecked '96 328is (in the rear) that still runs and drives. cant find too many of these M5x swapped into s-chassis. sorry to bump such an old post but figured it's worth the laugh. and the D measuring "im the first to chevy v8 swap my 240" lmfao
