Okay, so I enlisted the help of my favorite mechanic to drop my '91 dohc engine into an '89 body, equipped with power everything and digital speedometer. The engine is now in the car. Mechanic couldn't get car to start. He also had to install the ignition switch from the '91 for lack of keys. He also installed the '91 powersteering, a/c, and cruise control. The '91 wiring harness was used. the '91 ECU was used. My dumbass just figured out the digi speedometer and the tach is gonna take some more work.

My question is whether the how-to I gave him for the '95 engine swap into the '89 provided an accurate wiring diagram for MY engine. I'm probably a dummy and am comparing the '91 fsm to the how-to provided on the site for the 'sohc to dohc' swap. Don't know if I'll be able to understand the fsm without the car sitting in front of me.

BTW, there's WAY too many swaps like mine being done to not have a more accurate how-to. I intend to do a full write-up when it's done, from making the mechanical speedo work with the digi speedo to hooking up the dohc engine on the sohc transmission. Plz let me know if I'm a complete idiot. Much time and money has been spent, and this project will be completed at all costs.

wel buddy, this is gonna be a battle but not to bad. its pretty much like det wiring but de.

first double check and make sure he has the fuel lines on the correct locations. the two lines that are from the fuel filter and the return line. its a pretty common mistake. will cause no start.

if i heard correctly, the 95 wiring schematic is totally different from 89-93.

just double check and trace the grey plug and the white plug. for example, make sure orange white plug wire is hooked up. its tricky, in the grey plug you have to work some wires together. secrets of the trade.

last, on a twin cam to single cam cluster digital rpm ur gona have to find a good callibrator person. they are totally off and you could get it to work with a good wiring guy.

make sure 10mm is tight on ecu blue plug.

hopefully this is a good start up for you. i've been through this swap many times. look me up. maybe we could work something out if you get stuck. good luck bro

Thanks for the input. Still getting ready to check the wiring. I'll be swapping in the '91 gauge cluster for convenience. I have to decide whether to labor through all the electrician stuff myself or pay the local electrical automotive shop to figure it out for me. I'm hoping my mechanic understands the wiring diagram better than I do.

Match the colors of the wires at the white plug at the ecu, and a few repinning and crossing at the large grey and small brown plug at the front of the passenger side of the engine bay. Nothing major that would require an electrician.
