sending power back through the cigarette lighter is questionable on some cars.
adding a booster pack(12volts) to a system already running 12volts - will double the voltage and could certainly fry something out.
put it this way: its easy to reprogram the radio & clock. its a inconvenience to reprogram the homelink/garage doors. BUT ITS A ABSOLUTE PAIN IN THE F-ING a** TO HAVE TO TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALER, AND FORK OUT HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS because the booster pack that was piggy backed to the car fried out the ecu/bcm, burned out fuses, fried out modules, etc.
i dont want to sound like a negative-nancy, but i do want to expose you to the real side of things. our cars have a TON of sensitive modules/computers/electronics that at the slightly power spike will fry out. there are so many "short-cuts" that can be done by do-it-yourselfers & mechanics, but they very often back fire and end up costing a ton more time & money to fix, than the initial problem to begin with. that is the biggest comparison between GOOD mechanics & BAD mechanics. the good ones, do whats supposed to be done, taking care to not risk anything, even it means more sweat & blood. the bad mechanics take short-cuts that risk the vehicle, and do so without due regard for the possible outcome.
whatever you choose to do: good luck, and report back.
