Hey everyone, I just swapped in a '97 KA24DE block into my '93 240sx. However, I used the intake manifold (and all sensors attached to it), along with my cams (which were still in great shape) from my '93. When I -first- fired up the engine and it was off timing, I had a CEL, but once I timed the motor and drove it about 5 miles it cleared (never had a chance to check it).
Now I'm about 100 miles into the motor, and today while driving around I had a CEL come on. I pulled 5 codes:
11 - Crank Angle Sensor
12 - Air Flow Meter
21 - Ignition Signal
32 - EGR Function
34 - Detonation Sensor
35 - EGR Temperature
When I had my '93 motor in, I didn't have any codes before swapping. I've had either 32 or 35 pop up before, so I used a resistor in the EGR air temperature sensor plug to make it stop coming up (found a write-up on it here about a year ago) - that resistor is still there and working according to my multimeter.
I'm also using the same intake assembly as I was using before.. I'm at work now, so I just cleared the codes and figured I'd clean my MAF and check the plug once I get home and see if 12 doesn't come back up.
So now I'm curious about 11, 21, and 34.. I've been told 34 won't throw a code unless it has accompanying codes, and I'm sure I could've been getting some knock recently with all the timing adjustment / oil changing / Seafoaming that I've been doing. Should I just replace the knock sensor? Is it probable that my crank angle sensor is bad? The ECU tutorial mentioned to check crank angle first if both 11 and 21 appear. I should still have the crank angle position sensor from my old block if it didn't change between '93 and '97.
I removed the upper and right timing chain guides when cleaning up the '97 motor, but I'm still getting some noise around 4k rpm - I'm thinking it might be that my tensioner isn't functioning as it should. Before I put it back in, I cleaned it up and squeezed it many times in a can of oil to check it. It moved just fine, though it felt a bit easy to compress - not sure if that is normal. The tensioner off my '93 motor was hard as a rock when I tried to compress it to compare, but I just figured it was bad.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I gotta get this car smogged ASAP :x Thanks!
