I went ahead and orderd a new S15 turbo for my S13 Blacktop. I am also going to replace the turbo manifold and turbo elbow (dump pipe). I was wondering if I need to do any prep work... any suggestions on removing the turbo assembly ( the manifold, turbo, turbo elbow unit). This will be the first time that I remove the manifold and turbo.

People have been telling me that its going to be a mess...also that I need to pour oil into the turbo before instalation and spin the turbine to properly lubricate the BB's?

Basically looking for any advice from anyone who has tips or has removed and swapped their turbo's before. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Umm... I've never had previous experince and i did it in like 2 days, waiting on parts to be shiped,. I didnt get a new 1 i had a used S14bb so i didnt pour any oil, never knew that you had to. You might want to upgrade your oil and water lines to stainless steel. You can build your own lines and save your self like 100+ dollars. Oh yea make sure you get the oil return tube from the s15 b/c your old t25 wont work.

Any more questions ask away bro my job doesnt start till Monday. Till then its Halo 2 and Nico.

Yea you can use the FSM for the s14 sr its basically the same. Man just take off the down pipe bolts from the elbow and take of the oil and water lines and take off the manifold and boom its off.

I hadn't heard of putting oil in the turbo but it might not be a bad idea to pour some in the oil inlet.

Another thing you can do is pull you cas plug and turn the motor over a few times to prime oil pressure in the turbo before you start it. Then just plug the cas back up and fire it off.

If you are doing this in the car I found it was tight quarters to get the turbo back on the head while navigating the block and steering column. Others might advise against this but I pulled the two nuts off the brake master cylinder and pushed it about 1" out of the way it and made the install 100% easier. I was installing a aftermarket manifold, s15 turbo and greddy outlet that were pre assembled.

i agree with everything that has been said...but also... remember when taking the turbo off to take it off as a manifold/turbo/ turbo elbow assembly...and disconnect the oil and coolant lines from the BLOCK NOT THE TURBO. that will save you alot of headaches. unless you drain the coolant from the radiator expect for it to spray all over when you unbolt the line. the oil isnt that bad. The coolant feed is behind the block and can be a real ***** to do. OO and dont forget the lower oil return rubber hose

as for instalation, i havent put my t28 on yet but when i put the t25 back in i did the following...

if you are reusing the stock lines try to loosen up the oil line on the front of the turbo, keep it loose enough so that you can wiggle it. that way you can set the manifold on the studs, and connect your oil and coolant before the turbo is tight. Just be sure to Retighten that oil line. The coolant send on the back of the turbo is a real pain to put back on, i recoment using a screw type hose clamp, not the factory crap.

if you are using braded lines i believe that u cant get to the place where the coolant feed hooks up to without pulling the motor.

OO...and dont forget to hook up the vac. hoses!! (no seriously, no wastegate signal = blown turbo or engine)

thats all i can think of right now..good luck

The reason why they tell you to pour oil into the turbo is because the turbo is ball bearing..since the turbo is brain new..you need to prime the bearings with oil..you can either do this easy step buy pouring a cap full into the turbo oil drain opening..or..install turbo and unplug cas and crank the motor over while someone is holding the turbin in the turbo to stop it from rotating while oil gets into the turbo..

Did you upgrade your injectors?
