The VG30DETT would be a difficult swap. If you're going to put the effort into swapping in a new, more powerful motor, I suggest a VQ. There are a few reasons I say that...The first is that the VG30DETT is a RWD motor. Because of that, it's not set up to work well in a FWD engine bay. The turbos, intercoolers, etc. would all be oriented wrong. Of course you could redesign the turbo setup, but there isn't really room for a TT setup under the Maxima's hood, anyway. Then there are all the other "standard" swap problems: engine management, mounts (VG30E mounts will not work with a VG30DE(TT)), transmission, etc.And of course there are the problems of accessories, which--again, since the DETT is RWD-only--are not in a FWD-friendly arrangement--the alternator, for example, would end up hidden in the rear of the engine bay, far out of easy reach.

The VQ would save a lot of trouble since it came in FWD configurations. You could also probably manage to cram a single turbo in with it if you wanted.Depending on what year VQ you get and how stock you leave it, you could end up with anywhere from 190-265 or more hp.

The VG-DE(TT) is really too wide to fit in the Maxima's engine bay to begin with. The turbo setup would likely make it even worse. However... having the VG30E you already have an awesome engine capable of handling boost.

The VG30E is capable of handling a lot of power... much more than the transmission will be able to handle stock. 300-400 whp wouldn't be difficult. On top of that, I personally think the VG30E is a little more reliable the DE VG's. Both are incredible strong and reliable engines, but I think the VG30E doesn't have quite as many small issues like the DE like the lifters for instance.

Anyways, you can do a turbo setup on a VG relatively easy. There are quite a few options. I personally used Z31 turbo manifolds but modified the front manifold to route exhaust to the crossover pipe where I mounted the turbo. Another has used the stock manifold and put the turbo in the stock location with a different radiator fan setup for turbo clearance. You can also do a custom motor mount and leave the radiator alone, depending on turbo selection (size).

Are you planning on keeping the auto or going manual? If you stick with the auto you can have it built up pretty easily to handle the power of the turbo setup. It'll be expensive but most auto trannies are easy for shops to build for performance. At the very least, get the valve body modification and get a good transmission cooler.

If you're interested in this route, let me know and I'll continue on for you.

Ahh, yeah. I need modify that thing a little bit soon. The info should still be pretty good though. http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=158463

Another thing to add is the coolant feed pipe needs modified. Its a little too high to clear most crossover pipe setups. I simply cut mine and used some copper fittings to angle it down enough to clear the crossover pipe. I need to check someone but the 2nd gen Maxima actually uses a crossover pipe setup as well so I need to see if swapping that pipe would be good. Either way modifying it is very easy. My dad and I just used some silver solder to join the stock pipe to the copper fittings.

I can't remember if its in the writeup but the oil pan needs to have a small pipe welded on for oil return from the turbo. That's all that I can think of right now but I'm going to go over the writeup and make sure there's nothing big I missed.
