OK, I've searched and read some of the topics and my problem doesn't seem to fit into any of them.

I have a 1995 240SX with a manual transmission and about a month ago I was Driving hard at High RPM and ended up aactually breaking two valve springs. so rather than take the head off of the engine while it was in the car, I went to the junk yard and bought a used KA from a 1995 240SX with an automatic transmission to swap in while i build the origional.

So, about a month ago, I started on a saturday by removing my broken engine and transmission and used the rest of the week to swap all the external parts from old to new(intake manifold, alternator, all brackets and put in a new clutch). the next saturday I put the new engine in and hooked everything back up.

Sunday, I went ahead and tried to start the engine with everything but the cooling system installed and all it would do is turn over. I am getting plenty of gas and I do have fire, but I checked the timing and it is nowhere near the timing marks. The engine ran before it was pulled from the other car so I didnt mess with the distributor. Since then I've pulled the distributor and swaped it for my old one and reset the engine timing to TDC before I put it back in and it still won't fire right. could I have maybe gone 1 tooth to far one way or the other when i put the dist. back in?the plugs get fouled pretty bad so ive changed them a few times, are there any sensors that could cause the timing to go that far off, well any help would be great, I want to drive it to FL in two weeks and if it would start that would be the best christmas present ever. maybe i should just go with a full stand alone fuel and spark...

easy things to mess up on engine swap.

fuel lines reversed

plug wires on wrong

dist off a toothe(or more)

vac lines routed funny

electrical connections swapped(rare but it does happen)

you saw the motor run? you may have a bad vac leak at the intake manifold or something.

I saw the engine run about 10 months ago when i bought the front body parts to repair the car when i bought it. after that they went ahead and pulled the motor and trans out at the yard and put it in the engine house. They had taken all the externals off, but the ignition and fule system were un touched.

The wires are right, fuel is right, and so is the electrical so that leaves the dist. and the vac lines.

I'll look around for a vacuum line schematic, and check the distributor in the day light

thanks

merry christmass to me

I did have the distributor 180 out, thanks for making me check it one more time Chris.

It also could have been that she needed to shock me a couple of times because I left the ignition on. any way, thanks again
