i think i posted this already many moons ago, but know i have the money to get a s13 motor and i was wanted ur guys opinions. if i get the full front clip, have the srswap.com harness service for $100 (the only thing im worried about is the wiring) and between me and my friends, and my dad who owns a body/restoration shop, could i drop the motor myself, or is it worth the 1400 to have it professionally done, and i can go to one of the best shops in cali. thanks for your input

We don't know you, we don't know your skills, nor the skills of any of your friends or your dad. How do you expect us to accurately gauge the chances of you doing a swap yourself and coming out with a decent end product?

The swap is not hard, but then again, it's a little harder than changing the oil. I'm a computer nerd, and I got a swap 90% done with one of my friends who has never worked on cars in 4 days. So if you want to gauge your level off of mine, be my guest, but we can't really do it for you.

That may help man. I would also suggest you see if you can find a person somewhere in your area that has done it before. most people who have swapped it themselves wouldnt mind helpin you out with that hard parts they think would be trickey. then again they might. thats my best advice

if you like working on cars you may get some satisfaction from doing it yourself, you seem to be confident you can do it. i like to know i can do and have done much of the work on my car myself even if some of the minor details aren't perfect.

"Well I'm a computer nerd and I did 90% of the swap myself, except the wiring and ECU" :pface

just jokin with you, Well quiksilvia, you should do it yourself, but you have to take your time, allow excess money, allow plenty of time, and plan what you are doing. This is not the weekend carwash.

DIY buddy, it's not that hard...if you're a small guy like me you're gonna need a friend or extra person that can help you hold the driveshaft and stuff when installing or uninstalling it. Also you'll need friends to help you get the engine in onto the engine mounts and stuff...clear it into the engine bay. Basically if you can take out the KA without any trouble, the SR is basically the same thing. It'll be common sense once you get it in your car.

quit being a fu ckin d***. look at what posts you had to choose from before mine. If you wanna believe that I was being a smartass, because, you know, I singled you out and all, go for it, doesn't make any difference to me. jackass.

Dude wtf, why are you jumping on bud's case? His post is not offending at all. All he was saying was that we don't know your skills, and that he was a comp geek before doing the swap etc so you can gauge yourself off of him (to see if you can DIY and where you stand). Personally, I'm not pointing fingers, but you are jumping into conclusions for calling bud a smart arse about it. Sorry, but after what I just read in this thread, he has all the right to call you d***. I actually agree with bud if I were in his shoes. :bash

forget it, lets just forget the whole thread. nothing good will come out of any more posts unless they pertain to the main topic.

Back to the matter at hand...

If you have a friend that works on cars quite a bit that would be very helpful. But basicaly if you are resourceful and mechanically inclined - I bet you can do it. I hope so cause that is my situation and I'm planning on doing it myself - lol Personally I will find it very satisfying know ing I did the work myself. Also, if you do it yourself you will be much better at trouble shooting problems later.

those were the positives i was looking at as well. i am pretty inclined mechanically and my friend and i have helped drop a b20 vtec into a civic hatch. all the guys i hang out with know more about cars than is healthy so i think i will be alright with a wire harness service through ht.

Yeah, I agree with SpeedRacer, DIY. I'll do that as soon as my motor comes from HT.
