Hey guys, I've heard lots of things about this swap. (remove KA24 and install SR20DET). The latest thing that I'm hearing is that the US 240 can't handle the added power of the engine swap. They say that people who perform the swap later end up breaking things that cost losts of money, like the rear drive axle(?).

For those of you who have performed the swap, what should I expect after I do my swap? I don't know anyone personally who has done it, so I have yet to ride/drive a SR20DET powered vehicle.

If you have an open diff, yes you can break axles....a LSD would limit that.....Axles arent expensive either though...

The car does need work done to it....Everyone jumps on the 'power train', and no one really does the swap right...(well, very few)...the car does need suspension work, and brake work to say the least....Its kinda a waste of money to do a swap into a 'stock s13'...but people do anyway, and they have ****boxes : )

remember a lot use s13 chassis...and they are getting pretty old...all the suspension components, control arms, every bushing, etc should really all be done, and a brake upgrade to either 300z brakes or big brake kit is definitly something that should be considered....

Things brake...having a turbo car requires a LOT of maintanace....im one to not drive my car without checking it out each time (i dont drive it much, hehe), but things come loose, things crack, gaskets melt, fluid leaks, blah blah....your always fixing it, and if you dont like down time, and working on cars, then a motor swap, and turbo car probrobly isnt the best choice....but if you like hands on, upgrading parts, fixing and diagnosing problems, then thats great...otherwise it can be a headache...

Good points! I think that makes a lot of sense. It helps to get more opinions on this since everyone offers a different perspective. Thanks for your post.

Anyone else want to "weigh-in" on this?

well. look on the bright side. if your S13 has 140k+ on her than she is begging for a new engine.

Me personaly buying a new beat up S13. only mods will be engine, suspension and interior striped to nothing. side windows removed and fiberglass rivited in lol=)

its not as bad as you're probably thinking right now...like jesse said, u prepare for it, you won't have any.

jesse kinda pointed me in the right direction...listen to him. i just did a big turbo upgrade and i still have stock brakes. first day getting my car back and my braking SUCKS. now i am on the lookout for z32 brake setups.

The thing that I find works the best is to replace all your control arms and bushings, put on a new suspension, and a Z32 break upgrade. Then about a week after your SR motor arrives, get your car up to like 45-50 mph and plow directly into a pick-up truck that runs a stop sign.

Then you take the money the insurance company gives you and get a 240 with a perfect body and a blown engine for about $900. Take the suspension from the car you wrecked, swap it in the car you just bought. Slap in the SR engine and you're in business. Then with the left over insurance money pay off the credit card bill for the motor and suspension.

Strange how things work out.

newspapers, autotrader.com, looking around, internet, buy/sell/trade forum, and maybe even EBay. Just look it may take a little while because 240s are not Civics, meaning that they are sort of scarce.

I've been looking but have yet to find a nice 240 body that I'd like to put the swapped engine into.
