I do not currently own a 240, but another member in my area is selling one. He said it does not run because the timing chain broke on the highway doing 80.He does know of an engine to replace it, but i want to know if it would be easier for me just to try to fix it. Bear in mind I am 16 and have limited financial recources but really want a 240. Also, what parts would i have to replace? Or is that something I would need a mechanic to tell me? PLEASE HELP!!!

If the timing chain broke doing 80. Your proable going to have a prety good amount of damage on the head. But it also depend on how much the used motor is. Ifs its cheap buy the motor and then you can alway rebuild the old one if the good motor goes out.

He says there is an engine available for $650 w/ about 66k on it and thinks labor to have it installed would be about $350.

Buy the motor and swap it your self. All you need is a decent scocket set, jack(use the one in the car if you can buy one), jack stands($9.89 at wall-mart), engine host(rent one). Its really easy my 93 240sx was the first car I ever pulled a engine from. Its really easy after the first time takes a few hours if doing it by your self(goes faster with a friend).

Very bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad idea. Don't ever. It for emergency tire change. Don't use it. If you don't have money, rent high quality tools from kregen or Autozone for free.

(Some time, it DOES FALL)

How much your life worth? $9.89? NO.
