The SR is in and it started right up. It runs great except for a few minor quirks.

1. Turbo spits out quite a bit of oil through compressor (seals are broke) but boosts excellently. BOV spits out the oil in a very fine display of "that sucks".2. Engine overheats. 3. FAL Fans make weird vibration. So strong it's felt throughout the car even while engine is running.

Any inputs? Thank in advance.

I should be happier but the quirks suck.It is quite fast though. lol

Thanks quik. I took off the cap I have on that unused tube one the hot side of the Greddy VSPL, and about a table spoon of oil came out. And that was just in there, I can't imagine how much is in the "cooler". One thing is strange is the oil I put in is almost transparent, and the oil coming out is very dark brown. I will try to bleed the system tomorrow for the overheating problem. Where exactly is that bleeder screw everyone keeps talking about?

Nevermind I found it. I think the thermostat might be bad. The lower rad hose is cold even when everything else is hot. Only one side of the rad gets hot.

LOTS of people have that problem. I think they usually use the bleader screw and it fixes it. If not do a quick search on SR overheat and you will find it for sure. There was a good thread fairly recently about that specific sympton (only half the rad hot)

Yeah, I did the search and that's how I came up with the thermostat solution. Does anyone know what thermostat I could get locally that will fit the redtop? I'll purchase one today and see if that's it. About the oil in the turbo, Ken at Enjuku said they will warranty it. A rebuild or replacement will be here soon. Thanks for everyone's help.

Congradulations DriftS14 the car looks good. My car overheated also when I first ran it for a short amount of time but after properly bleeding the system all was good.

I will take some better shots and upload them.EL240SX, you were right man. The car is very fast. I took it out for a quick test drive a little while ago, and already a new sunfire wanted to get crazy with me!! I guess he thought since he bought it in yellow it's fast. lol I taught him a quick, and I mean REAL quick lesson. Thanks again for everyone's help. Oh and if 8 psi is this fast.... I'm dying to see 14.

Its funny you mentioned that, you just reminded me. I thought the BOV vented into the atmosphere would cause idle/coast down problems. But I have had absolutely none. Its perfect. (knock, knock, knock) lol

BTW, is boosting on new clutch ok? Just no clutch abuse right? ie: 5000 rpm clutch dropsIt is slipping a little when the boost goes positive.

i suppose you wouldn't have nething to compare your bov to i.e. cold side mount vs. your hot side?

i don't know maybe better throtte response on one side then the other, but i'm not sure i have just read b4 there's alot of people that would do one way over the other and then there are others who claim there way is the best. Just trying to get my facts straight. :)

DriftS14 i also have the bov venting to the atmosphere and have no problem with idleing or anything of that nature. I love driving this car and I know what you mean about Sunfires. I had a friend who had bought a new Sunfire a couple of years ago and he wanted to race me in my 5.0 and I was like are you serious, I couldn't stop laughing.

EL, I feel ya. From now on everytime I go out with the 240 I'm taking the camera. I'm gonna record every kill as they happen. lolEven those that I don't beat. On a sadder note, the gasket that goes between the tubo and the manifold blew out. Anyone know where I could get this the cheapest? I contacted my local nissan dealer and they told me $17. I was like D#$N!

Drift I got my exhaust manifold gasket from Kragen for about 12 dollars, but I had to wait a day for them to order it since they don't carry that gasket in stock.

Thanks EL. The sound is sickening with that gasket blown out. It sounds as though the turbo is tearing its impeller blades to pieces. But it still boosts fine.

MAN DO I HAVE A STORY FOR YOU AND ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS 2 AND 3. THE OVERHEATING ISSUE IS A LOAD OF CRAP. I CHASED THAT GHOST ALL SUMMER LONG. NOTHING... AND I MEAN NOTHING HELPS THAT ISSUE. I WENT FROM A STOCK RADIATOR, SINGLE FAN (WHICH HEAVY THROTTLE SAID WOULD BE FINE) TO A TWO ROW RADIATOR W/ HIGH PRESSURE NISMO CAP, NEW NISMO THERMOSTAT, CHANGING THE SR TEMP SENSORS BACK TO THE KA ONES, A NEW FLEX A LITE DUAL FANS AND BUTCHERING MY FRONT BUMPER FOR MORE AIR FLOW. NOT ANY OF THESE OR ALL OF THEM TOGHTER STOPPED THE STOCK TEMP GAUGE FROM SAYING MY CAR WAS OVERHEATING. I FINALLY PUT IN A AFTER MARKET TEMP AND PLUGGED IT INTO THE UPPER HOSE AND GUESS F****** WHAT?! THE CAR IS RUNNING NORMAL TEMP! ARROUND TOWN I WAS RUNNING ABOUT 180-190 DEGREES F AND ON THE HIGHWAY I WAS RUNNING BETWEEN 190-210 DEGREES F. EVERY MAJOR SR SHOP IN THE COUNTRY HAS NO SOLUTION TO THIS STOCK gauge ISSUE. THEY ALL SAID TO JUST WATCH THE AUTO METER gauge AND IGNORE THE STOCK GAUGE. IT GETS DAMN HOT IN KC IN THE SUMMER AND NOW THE CAR IS RUNNING COOL. WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT SUMMER WHEN I RUN MY AC ON THOSE SCORCHER DAYS. I WILL BE PUTTING A KOYO OR GREDDY ALUM RADIATOR IN BEFORE JUNE TO HELP KEEP COOLER. BUT I BET THE gauge STILL READS HOT. WE SHALL SEE.

ON TO THE FANS. MY CAR DOES THE SAME THING. I THOUGHT THAT THEY WERN'T INSTALLED PROPERLY SO WE TOOK THEM OUT AND BACK IN AND OUT AND ORDERED NEW ONES. THEY ALL DO THAT. I HAVE JUST LEARDED TO DEAL.'

I WILL HAVE TO AGREE THOUGH... G** DAMN THAT CAR IS QUICK! AND I DO LOVE TO DRIVE IT. IF YOU EVER WANT TO SWAP STORIES OR WHATEVER JUST SHOOT ME AN EMAIL. [email protected].

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY DRIVING.__________________________________________________

As far as the oil problems goes, that breather on the top right of the valve cover (standing in front of the car in the middle, two hoses, one comes from block, other end goes to hot pipe? bov?) Put one of thoes little filters on the end of that, facing you. Oil comes up that line and into the turbo and bov. Its for emmisions get rid of it! That will fix that oil prob.

I had my harness done by Estevan Mariani of Gainsville, FL. The harness is perfect and I highly suggest to all, get your harness done professionally. Its worth it in the end.

This is his email, I'm sure he could answer your questions:[email protected]

No where near man. I'm up in "B F E" big time (south dakota). I may be the first SR swap in this area. Estevan came highly recomended by Ken (Enjuku) so I sent my harness to him. I couldn't have asked for a better turnout.

I raced my buddy's altima today (right after work so no camera sorry) and absolutely destroyed him. OK so it was a 2.5 S. It's still a kill. lol

wow... can't you just put the S14 temp sensor in the SR? or at worst get an S14 SR temp sensor?

So is it the S14 SR sensor that I need? SR20_N_KC says he's tried most everything and nothing works. He didn't mention s14 sensor, but I thought ka and sr would be interchangeable. BTW, I must say that of all the swaps being done, I've followed yours step by step Rob. Mostly because you got your engine from Ken like me. Do you have any recent pics of your car? How much psi are you running? I noticed you had some pretty good track times as well.

I TRIED IT BOTH WAYS. SR AND KA. NEITHER WORKED OUT FOR ME. I STILL GOT HOT ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT ONLY ON THE HIGHWAY. THATS ALWAYS BEEN THE ISSUE. ARROUND TOWN IS NEVER A ISSUE. I PURCHACED ALL MY STUFF FROM HEAVY THROTTLE IN NY. THEY SAID "DO NOT" CHANGE THE SENSORS. I CAUGHT UP WITH A 240 DRIFTING CLUB NEAR KC AND THEY SAID PUT THE KA SENSORS IN THAT WOULD SOLVE THE ISSUE. NO GO THERE. THE ONLY THING I HAVENT DONE IS GO WITH THE BIG DAWG RADIATOR. IF I STILL HAVE MY CAR NEXT SUMMER I WILL BE PUTTING IN A KOYO OR A GREDDY. IT GETS PRETTY DAMN HOT HERE IN KC. LET ME KNOW IF YOU CATCH THE GHOST.
