Has anyone here ever done the swap (or any other engine swap for that matter) In your yard or garage without a hydraulic hoist?

If so how hard was it? What were some of the problems/difficulties associated with it?

Thanks

-Andre

you can do it on a 240 fairly easy. you need at least to have a good jack.... if you take the transmission off, put the car jack stands on 4 corners, also drop the crossmember. jackthe motor into place from under the car then bolt the x-member on. then put the transmission on and your done. thats really the simpifide version but you should be able to get the point the only thing is its alot easier to do it with a cherry picker and do it from the top. you should be able to rent a hoist for 20-30 bux a day and it shouldn't take more than a day. have fun Cjex

My cousin did his b18c5 engine swap under his house. He lives right next door to me. Our houses are on stilts because we live so close to the beach that it's manditory regulations. What we did was take a chain wench and strapped it to one of the cross beams of the house's support. This was sure enough to lift anything. To make it better we had 3 of these bad boys. So what we did was put two on seperate cross beams. Then tied the ends to a steal beam under the car just behind the front wheels and just in front of the rear wheels. Wench both sides up and voila HOMEMADE LIFT!! The third wench we used was for hoisting out the engine of course.

I think the hardest part would be eveything single thing underneath the car....its pretty hard trying to work with normal jacks...

yeah i did the engine swap myself with my dad and I am only 17, 16 when i did it. Its not really that hard. All we needed was the engine hoist and hand tools. But now we have oil stains in the driveway :pface

I did the swap at home and I needed 2 extra hand to line up the engine and trany. By the way I pull and put the engine with the trany. I only lifted the front of the car a good amount, the rear wheels stay on the ground.

i lifted up the front end, so i could get to the parts underneath the front with ease. I simply pulled the transmission with the engine, all through the top.

If your careful you can pull both engine and transmission out the top on a rwd. fwd the transmission has to be drop from the bottom and the engine can come out the top or bottom.

With the couple years of shop experience and the 2 years of mechanic school, I have never seen a rwd car have its transmission dropped just to get the engine out with it. If they are both coming out, just take the cross bar that's holding the transmission off, remove all motor mountings etc..and pull it out. It comes out at an angle which doesn't harm anything. This is the same for mostly all cars except a few minorities with small engine bay. So there you go, it all comes out through the TOP at the SAME time. Clear enough? :thinker If you were to only need to pull the engine out after its all mounted in, all you would need to do is unbolt the transmission from the engine (and nothing else involving transmission) then unbolt the engine take just the engine out. All in all, top is easier and less time consuming.

Good news to all of you rookies, (which I am part of) I have done all of the searches you have done and have all of the info you have, but the installs people have posted on the internet, are rather vague.

I'll solve that though. I have been planning my install for a year, buying engine and computer and just doing things slow and taking my time. well, the end of the wait has come and am going to be posting the most detailed install instructions ever (kinda).

I've gotten a digital camera and plan on taking pics of every single thing I do, even if its wrong. You can learn from my mistakes, you can follow my steps, and email me for more information.

Give me some time, wish me luck, and pray that i dont **** something up.

If you guys have anyhing to suggest, [email protected].

Thanks.
