89 240sx-se w/ sport package

First off I know almost next to nothing about suspension setups. but I do learn fast, what im looking for is a combination with coilovers, and i guess i will be needing different shocks? its 60% street, 35% racing, 5% drift. I want a ok ride, not to where it kills you to ride around for 1/2 hour. i still have the stock tires, and suspention. this will be my first project for the 240 so id like to spend up to 2500. And what size tires would be best for the setup you lovely people are about to give me? i believe stock rims are 16"?? i an planning on getting low profiles tires so they would have to be about what? 18" rims? thanks, and i dont care about handling in snow or rain as i am moving to texas next year. Thanks again

Well, for similar usage (higher drift/auto x percentage though) I have:-Nismo S-Tune Coilovers-Pillow ball traction control rods (Project Silvia)-Tein hard tie rods and ends-K's rear sway bar (21mm, can be had from a USDM HICAS car)-Whiteline endlink bushings-Whiteline "D" swaybar bushings-205/50/15 Falken Azenis tires on 15x6.5 Manaray wheels (tires would work on stock wheels as well)

Very compliant for the street, and compentent for the track. Lots of travel (which an S13 needs) and stiff enough to be controlable. Total cost...about $1600 w/o wheels. Not bad if you ask me. I will be adding a Nismo Power Brace II and full Nismo bushing kit (cuz I am getting engaged soon and rings are so pricey, I can't get the SPL Pro arms I want so badly:() After that, I am getting Cusco OS STBs and calling it done. Total cost at that point will be about $2200.

If you can put up with some abuse on the rougher roads then I suggest.

- KTS Coilovers ($1120)- SPL Tension Rods ($153)- SPL Pro Rear Upper CAs ($299)- SPL Toe Rods ($243)- SPL Traction Rods ($243)- SPL Subframe Spacers ($86)- SPL Tie Rods and Rod Ends ($145)- SPL Fender Braces ($259)

Total: $2548 ... but if you wanted to get all of that just email me and I will see what I can do as far as pricing :)

thanks a bunch, i think i will get this setup. Hows it feel overall say on mild roads, and on the more texas type roads? i wont have the whole 2500 for a good 4 or so months, their are some things i have to do to my mom's van beefore i can work on my car. Such as new tires, ps pump, bumper fix, mirror fix, and a tune up as well as oil change, and a few dent removals. *note* only 90% of this stuff was my fault. all dents wernt me, bumper, mirror, and tires were all me.... i think the ps pump just needs more ps fluid... but ill tell my mom its up to her to get the blinker fluid changed ;)

Also what do CA's mean in the pro rear upper CA's

CA = Control Arm

The feel is bumpy on bad roads but it's something that you will get used to in a week or so. When I got my coilovers they felt hard as hell for a while, but like anything you get used to it and really don't notice it until you get on a really bad road.

yea, well my g/f has a 96 sunfire gt 5 spd, and her bro gave her the car, he put eibach springs on it (and nothing else now her shocks are fried) and its pretty bad ride. and as long as it feels like that or better im completely fine, i actually like how bad of a ride her car is, kinda relaxing to me cuz its like a massage.... but its not too terribly bad..

5% drift means VLSD is fine.

And don't put 18's on an S13, looks way too big. For the driving you said you did, I would go with 17x8 all around .

You should pickup a rule book for type of racing you plan to do and read the rules, figure out what is legal or not for the class you want to run.

I have a buddy that does 90% drift, and after a year and MANY late night sideways trips, drift comps, autox's, more late night slide sessions, he is still rocking the VLSD. Not the best for drifting, but it will work!

BTW: He has an SR, 14psi on T25G, full list of bolt-ons, HE's w/ pillow ball EVRYTHING, and about 240hp.
