I have never lowered any of my cars in the past so please bear with me. My s13 have blow shocks and I find this to be an excellent excuse to upgrade the suspension but got some questions, hope you can help.

1) true coilovers kits will most likely be better than shocks/spring combo since nothing beats springs specifically matched to shocks by a single manufacture. Is this statement true?

2) what about HR or neuspeed springs matched with koni yellow? that's a good combo right? will tein basic coilovers beat that? how about the nismo one (the non-adjustable, cheaper one)

3) assuming that I'll be getting a coilover kit, under $1000 to my door, doesn't really need to have adjustability but I would appreciate it if it doesn't blow easily under ocassional crazy driving... which one would you recommend?

well I think you misunderstood... I am trying to find out what's a good one for my need? Also shocks can be damaged easily from speeding over speed bumps all the time so I actually want to buy it new...

<---- look to TireRack for info.

Grant is our rep from TireRack. Call him up and he will set you straight for under $1000.

I'm guessing he might suggest the tried & true, Eibach prokit with KYB struts. Combo that can't be beat for everyday use, mild drop, firming up but not bone jarring suspension.

I have read that kyb wont' honor their products if the car is dropped around 2in ch or lower. Is this true? Eibach Prokit make the rear looks a lot lower than the front from what I seen on people's car.

and what about coilovers? screw it?

I have these. Nismo S-Tunes. Think of them this way: the guys that designed the chassis and the dynamics of the car designed these. Perfectly matched springs and shocks designed for our cars. I LOVE them.

The hot set up for street use is the Eibach Prokit and KYB AGX adjustables. The GR-2 is not designed for lowering. It's aprox. 15% firmer valving than stock but not enough for lowering. The AGX is the only one where the warranty stays in effect if you use them with lowering springs.

Check them out here:

i think the k-sport coilovers in the group buy would be good for you. they are 32 way adjustable dampening so you could set them soft or firm. cheap price too!

try a search, these types of questions come up all the time.

if it is a daily driver and you are not tuning for track, and it doesnt sound like you are, then coilovers will probably be too stiff for you unless you want it really stiff.

my experience with lowering my 95 240...i have coilovers, 8/6kg (soon to be 6/5). they dont ride harsh really unless something bottoms out, but i would never expect to try and push my car on an uneven surface. rolling pavement, not just bumps, will limit your confidence on stiff suspension. suspension is also about the package, things working together. you could spend 1600 on coilovers or spend 1600 on a whole set of springs, shocks, roll bars, bushings, and TIRES. what do u think would handle better? coilovers are also designed to handle the repeated stress of track driving, but again this stuff comes up all the time on the forums, there are plenty of people who can explain it better than me =) it basically comes down to your purpose and intentions for the car.

Pro-kit, bah!! Soft, progressive rate, and hardly lowers the 240sx...If you are somewhat serious about handling: Tanabe Grip Feeling and Suspension Techniques. <-- These are linear rate and not really, really stiif, still great for street use. If you want to go a little stiffer for a spring set: RS-R Race, KG/MM...

[QUOTE]Originally posted by WongFeiHung "]Pro-kit, bah!! Soft, progressive rate, and hardly lowers the 240sx...Amen. These S-Tunes are pretty hefty, and the only thing that is stiffer other than high grade coilovers are RS*R Race Springs. The only problem with them and AGXs is that they are too stiff for AGXs and will drastically shorten their life. I emailed KYB America and they said that between their rate and their drop, they will wear out the AGXs pretty quick. The S-Tunes are balanced and tuned as well as matched. The dampners are made by KYB, and while not adjustable, they will last a long time. Get them installed at a Nissan dealership and you even get a warranty;)

And yes, $685 is the cheapest. Most other places run between $800-$1000.

kYb agx shocks with prokit or sportline spring

Get prokit for daily driving

sportline for a more aggressive driving style (it lowers the car more)

Yes. ANY suspension modification you do (other than strut tower bars, which is really a chassis modification anyway) requires a realignment.

The reason that I chose S-Tunes of Tein Basics was the spring rates. Tein are 6kg/mm F&R. While that is good, the fact that the S-Tunes are staggered makes for better understeer reduction. Notice that all high end coilovers are like that (Tein HE are 8/6 as are JIC FLT-A2)

i been looking around for suspension stuff and i came across the posts about the s-tunes. cause i dont want to spend to much money. id prefer getting adjustable, even though i dont plan on doing any adjustmants at the moment, i might in future. one o my struts is currently blown its really screwed up. so im trying to decide on which setup i want to get. i found the stunes here for $646

Grumble grumble. Way cheaper than they cost me. I paid the MSRP listed below plus hipping. 4 months and still loving them tho! The ONLY complaint that I have is that I get ripped on cuz the drop is so little Plus, my 50 series Azenis on 15s makes the wheel gap back to stock look. But the car is noticibly lower.

About 1.5 hours. But nay coilover is easy. I had never done it before and was a peice of cake.
