need to do a pretty extensive suspension transplant. already got all the bushings and stuff... what would be the best idea for me. i want to spend less than 1000. ive been looking at tein coilovers and some other companies on ebay, for less than a grand. i would prefer coilovers, but is there a good adjustable strut/ spring setup that you guys have found luck with?

my purposes are almost entirely autocross and drifting. just want to know what setup would be best for me under a grand -ish

thanks

Why do all you go for brand names like Tein and KeI Office !!@!@!@!@!!@

Why don't you go for other brands that have just as much support, and knowledge round the world ???

In my mind there are four sets of quality:

ebay

low quality which to me includes bilstein

high quality which is the teins kei cusco JIC buddy club and HKS of which I would probably only buy the JIC's or Tein's

the uber nice aka Penske and Ohlins and a few other assorted brands like that

I would have trouble buying from a place that isn't suspension specific. Tein especially because mostly, thats what they do is shocks. I would buy a turbo from HKS but probably not shocks. Penske and Ohlins are probably out of the range of what most people on here want to spend I definitely say though, buy the best you can afford.

a very nice autocross setup that ive seen is koni/ground control. that setup has also been used in road racing with good results.

I too am looking for a set of coilovers... But honestly, my logic has been changed... If you go coilovers, dont budget yourself by saying 1000... the difference in performance with coilovers is huge between 1000 dollar coilovers and 1300 dollar coilovers. If you're going to spend 1000, go ahead and spend 1300. If you're not, settle for a cheap shock/spring combo... my opinion anyways.

you could get a nice set of Tanabe soc II's for like $650-700 something. Or the better ss II's for like $1000 or so. I personnally prefer Tanabe's drift spec coilover's or DD spec.

But wait, if he sits on it, and he can find a 2nd hand pair in really good condition like i did, you can have a set of JIC silver fully adjustable coilovers for about $US700..

um you can get kts beta 2s from splparts.com i think the price is like 1140 shipped. if you bust em you can replace it for 550 i think.

kyb agx, eibach and the others.

if youre like me and like to spend long hours messing around with different settings then go for some good quality coilovers. usually guys that race hard have multiple sets too because they blow em a lot. start off with some cheap 1-1.5k then if youre still serious about cars then check out the better stuff you can get.

Wait a sec. I've driven cars riding on the HKS Hypermax, and I have to say that I love the quality of the product and I would not only trust them, but I would buy them as well in a heartbeat if I had the chance to.

My friend has the HKS coilovers in his, and i think they are ****en awesome, and if i could've found them for my car, i woulda at the time.. but i got the JICs instead as i know they are a trusted and well known brand.

Can't stress enough how much i like suspension.. i had the choice between Teins and the JICs, and i chose the JICs
