Another LONG POST by me. You have been warned. I know it can be a pain to make a long reply but your effort will not be in vain, I garauntee that!!!

.

I own a 1993 240sx fastback.

.

Ive decided what to do with some money I have accumulated in the bank.

In the future I plan to do an sr20 or rb engine swap. But before that I need to take care of the suspension and brakes that have gotten tired and sluggish.

1. Brake petal feels mushy, last owner changed the pads himself, and I know he did it wrong. The lines just may need to be bled, but, I want to slowly add performance stuff to the car for the future beast it will transform into. I want to get break pads at PDM Racing and also new cross drilled rotors. Is it possible to have 300zx brakes on the front and back? so far I have only seen people adding them to the front. Is this possible/practical?? (i am expecting 300-375 rwhp when done with engine) If it is practical should I also get a new master and slave cylinder that can handle the more power the 300zx brakes need?

2. If the brake calipers themselves are sticking or weak, how do I replace them? will I need all new calipers or just the pistons in them?

3. The bushings on my car are shot, is this a DIY job? I have found a DIY article for the front bushings, I think I can handle that. But is it just as easy to replace the rear ones?

4. I can see the front bushings leaking, where are the rear ones located? Are there any others than just the front and back bushings that need to be replaced over time?

5. Shocks and springs.... I am clueless on what path to take, I want performance, I can deal with a harsh ride as long as i get great performance, and shell out *SOME* cash for a nice set, what should I get?

At the moment I am running a bone stock 1993 240sx, non-se version, were talking open-differential, hubcaps, and all. I couldnt care less about looks ATM. But I want to be able to do as many of these things at home in my garage because I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to learn about this stuff. I am 18 so time is not an issue :pface.

Have any of you done these replacements and upgrades yourselves at home? Please share your info on each if you have the time...

6. What are some good jack points on the 240sx? I have 4 stands that should be able to do the job but dont have a clue where to place them. The jack points in the manual are really pathetic and I already crushed the metal lip a bit under the door while jacking the car up to get at the cat and exhaust.

red search button on the top right of the site would help you out w/ most ?s

1-yea its possible to have both front n rear 300zx brakes, but in rears, you'll have to modify the parking brake cable... just do the fronts since it's ~70-80% of the stopping power.Stainless steel braided brake lines a +.

2-just replace the whole thing if you see rust in the pistons. won't cost that much more than just replacing the pistons & seals seperately, the brake caliper bore may be scratched/rusted beyond use when u take them apart & have to buy the whole unit anyway.

4-u mean the front TC rod bushings? some guy posted a few days ago & his company sells the bushings as well as pdm...if you're in the states, he can ship them to you w/out the customs shipping... if u r in canada, then goto pdm.A FSM is really helpful or there is a site called http://www.carfiche.com PS there's no silicone-filled bushings in the rear that'll leak, just solid rubber bushings that'll dry rot in time.

5-waaay too many to reply...read other threads esp. the suspension section. Most have KYB AGX that are adjustable, but others have coilovers, adjustable pillowball mounts, etc. to allow a range of wheel selection as well as other performance gains. not too exp w/ this since my car's a daily driver only.

6-metal lip is only for that spare tire jack... go further in to the square chasis tubing in the front... put your floorjack/jackstands there. optional- a piece of wood in between that flatspot and the jack. in the rear, you'll see round humps thats slightly further in that metal lip...place your jack stands there..

i would like to show u but my newer pc w/ the scanner is down.
