First off, hello to everyone! I'm new to the board and recently bought a '90 240sx. I got it relatively cheap in hopes of making it my project vehicle. It's all stock at the moment other than the replacement speakers in the doors.

The struts on the rear are worn out so I'm going to be replacing them within the next week or so. I'm currently contemplating a couple of solutions to this. The first solution is the cheapest and simpest, just go to autozone, buy stock replacements and bolt them up. The second is to get a little more involved, buy aftermarket struts all around and a set of lowering springs to drop the car about an inch or so. I'd also get a set of sway bars while I'm at it. This is definately more expensive but I think the gain in handling would be worth it in the long run. I plan on having this car for a number of years and doing extensive work to turn it into a worthwhile drifting vehicle yet stay away from the rice crap.

As an after thought, if I do just do a simple stock strut replacement, I'll still have about $800 to put into other areas immediately. I plan on changing the engine out from the ka24e to sr20det eventually so I don't want to spend money on frivelous engine enhancments at the moment since they are going to be negated in a year or so when I replace the engine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

if you're looking to build a worthwhile drift machine i say save up a little more and go w/ some coilovers(like tein he's). trust me if u want to drift with this car this would be the best route(i'm speaking from experience). springs and shox are great but they dont even hold a flame next to coilovers. and i have agx's with whiteline springs.

yep. you said you want to drift it. so why waste more money on things that will be useless later?

Well, after speaking with a number of people, it seems that my best bet is to get the Tein basic kit since it's about $800. My main concern with that is that I'll need new rims also to clear the springs and I don't have the money at the moment. Looks like I'll to sell the other car first and then do everything at once.

save up more for the he's i dont think the basics will hold up as long as the he's, meaning you may have to rebuild them sooner.

basics are good enough if you're not gonna drift a lot, or hard. If you are however, the get the HEs.

For the rims, find steelies to drift in, and your wheels will clear the basics. Most of the 240 owners with Tein Basic's have stock rims, and run fine. They even use their stockies in the rear to drift, and their nice rims in the front.
