hey i was wondering if you could help me out. the problem is that my suspension is too stiff. i understand that it is the "t" model and a stiff suspension was part of the package. BUT dude i take a pothole hard! you can ask sopdadope he's been in my car before. i take it so hard i'm surprised i dont have a ruptured kidney or something by now. so the question is do these "t" models come out of the factory like this, really stiff, or is there something wrong with my car thats causing this?!?!?

Based on my experience with a Maxima SE, that's just the way it is (I assume it's very similar to I30t).

What psi in the tires? Try low 30s psi, that'll help.

Very few cars handle potholes well, too much risk for damaging wheels and tires.

dude my tires are at 25 psi. thats the recommended amount in the tires. is it possible to replace the springs with some softer one's?!?!

John

Are u the the original owner?Or was there a previosu owner that may have modded the suspension?

Some stiffer suspension set-up's are almost undrivable on the potholed streets on NYC and similar streets.

25 psi is kinda low. Most of us run low 30's at the lowest, I run 38 in the rear and 41 in the front.I think you should look at your suspension to see whats written on those shocks/struts.

Fred...:)

Maybe you are hitting the rims on chug holes. That is way too low.

I guess you could swap to non touring model springs, but it might not be that much softer.

Might get better advice at: http://www.maxima.org ???

I'm not sure what's different about the touring v. non touring suspension set-up.

The usual difference in touring vs standard in Nissan is sway bars........Springs are calculated for vehicle weight [the correct value is a narrow range based on weight and wheel base distance to comply with road seams. Lux cars have under damped shocks, performance cars have ideal damped shocks, and aftermarket have over damped shocks.

For every 1.0 inch a suspension is lower by springs the springs have to be 1x1/7 [14-16%] stiffer. Generally Tokico blues are 20% stiffer in compression and rebound when brand new. By 25-30-35,000 miles they are about equal to new oem shocks. The rears go first since the undilating rear moves 145% as much [stroke distance] as the front per mile as the front sway bar acts as a partial spring.....limiting front up and down movement [plus 55% of weight is here].

Most suspensions are designed to be comfotable at 55-65 mph on smooth highways potholes are never considered in a design other than by bump stops [rubber isolators] which keep the shock tower front shooting thru the hood.
