Hi fellows, I have a question,
i have roughly 500 bucks for suspension repair.
The car still drives smooth, but as of recent im begining to fell every bump.
Obviously, with that amount of money i can only do one side(Front/Back)
With that being said, Would you recommend waiting another year to do all four at same time.
Or can i do front or back for now, with some noticeable difference.
If so which side should i do first. Front or Back?

Any input would be great, thanks

Front takes more weight, more wear and tear. One done without the other will *punish* the new components - might be better off just buying the parts and saving them until you buy the rears. There is nothing worse for new components than being mated to old components that immediately push them past their design limits.

$500 for all the front? I hope so...I have an AE and the two shocks alone were about that.

do you have the electric suspension or the standard one??? that is the big question, paranoid had to buy the infiniti ones to keep his AE with the adjustable electric ones. So, if you have those frankly you have zero real choice, but if you have the standard ones you can buy higher qualtiy aftermarket KYR SR Specials, but you have to order them special from only one place.

Let us know that and we can guide you the rest of the way.

During my last tire purchase a week ago, Tire Kingdom tells me I need a right-rear strut. I have a 1999 Q45T w/active suspension and just hit 170K on odometer - I can understand the struts being old w/all the miles I've put on the car, and that they could be worn. TK told me their recommended struts are Monroe; that the Monroe struts will cost 'about' $140/ea; and that I should do all 4 struts at the same time.

My question: since my Q45T has the active suspension, is there more involved than just changing out the stuts? Should I consider any other manufacturer? Are there any mounts or other active suspension-related electronic stuff that I should consider replacing in conjunction with simply replacing struts? Should I also have a full alignment done? I'm worried about "the law of unintended consequences" if I have TK change my struts - is there anything further I should be aware of?

Love this website - I've been a lurker for many months. Thanks for any advice.

At the minimum, you must replace font bearings. Better to replace all rubber. Read Paranoid Jack's nice write up.

And your "Tire King" will be very surprised when ne goes to look up your car and finds Monroe's don't exist for it anyways. There are very few choices for you. either you buy OEM and keep the electronic shocks or you stip out that stuff and try to retrofit in KYB SR Specials or OEM. If I were you I'd contact Infiniti of Scotsdale and use OEM.

Monroe makes nothing for this car and they are crap anyways. I second the recommendations on rubber and bearing replacement, but get someone that is a little better then a tire chain store.

wait, I was told the KYB SR specials were fine on my car and I would just loose the active suspension(2000 AE) but are you saying I will have to retro fit them? cant I just install and not connect the active suspension?

I think they will just fit, I don't think there is any kit or anything...I know a few people that did it on this board. Guys, anybody that did this chime in, however, I think you can just order them. Sort of a PITA to get them, the only place that really sells them now is called memoryfab, go to their website and call them. Will take about 4-6 weeks to get them, but KYB is the only company that makes them for our cars and so the OEM are just lower performance versions.

You might consider either new stock springs or get the lowering ones from Memoryfab, but be warned this is a long big car and when you drop it by 2" you will have to watch it, but my Q handles soooo much better with this setup.
