OK... I'll start from the beginning... I started hearing a "pop" sound when I turn the steering wheel. I hear it when driving and sitting still. 3 months later, I find time to check what was up. As I was loosening the 3 bolts ontop of the shocks, one of them would not come off. I ended up taking a chisle and split the nut in half. I find out that the bolt was no longer securely attached to the top hat. Sooo, now my questions.

1) Could the tension rod be at fault? I know I need to change it and am looking for a good price on one. I was wonder if since it is old, the whole suspension moves around and causes the bolt to come loose.

2) From the above pic, there's an arrow on the top hat.( circled in red) Where is it suppose to point? (I'm assuming out)

3) Lastly, on the top hat, there is a notch where the spring sits. Is there a reason there's a notch there?

Sorry for the long post and Thanks for reading it!

The poping noise you heard is prolly your sway bar endlinks.

I have a clunk in my front nd usually when I have the wheel fully cranked to either one side, coupled with hitting a dip or bump (kinda like if you're turning around in the street, and possibly go over one of those soft curbs of a sidewalk, the kind you can safely drive up onto.)

I have new front struts, new swaybar bushings, new TC Rods.

Thing is, when I got the car the front pass. strut was so bad I wouldn't be able to tell if this clunking was there before I put the new parts on or not. So now I'm thinkin ball joint??

Its quite possible that my strut tower mounts are gone....but in your pic I thought that notch was where the end of the spring was suppose to end....I think.

no expert here sorry :(

sorry if this is late: i'm doin a search on TC rods B4 I post my own ?

A. to #3) the notch is there so u can orient the whole assembly to the body of the car correctly... my 89 FSM says the cutouts should be facing toward the inner side of the vehicle.
