I've searched and only come up with two threads on this issue. Both results sounded like exactly what was going on with my car with the exception that those were active Q's. Mine is non-active.

Anyway my issue is that when going over bumps I hear a knocking sound. I also hear a rubbery sound to go along with it. I've already determined that I need struts, with all of the rubber bushings, but what about the knocking? I feel it right in the floorboard as if it was coming from the steering rack. Yet, I've been under the car 5 times carefully looking for anything abnormal, which I see nothing.

I also hear a slight creaking from the suspension when I get out of the car. I'm getting my pennies together for a suspension overhaul anyway, but I want to knock it out all at once. I've already done the upper links and that did nothing for the rubbery sound in the front. So, for the knocking, any ideas?

Damn you're good man. I forgot to even mention that those were busted. Can you tell me the approximate cost of those (ballpark)?

Ok I relplaced my sway bar frame bushings. The annoying squeaking is gone, but the knocking is still there for some reason. I hear the knocking when going over big bumps, sometimes when turning, and to make matters worse, my wheels turn on every bump. What I mean by that is, it seems that my tires "grab" every bump and make the wheel turn. It's quite annoying. I've been under the car many times checking this problem out, but I can't seem to find any visible problem.

Any guesses on this one?

Ive been in the same boat as yourself for awhile, but I figured it would not subside until I replace all the suspension parts. So for now i deal with it.

Getting a 98 740il soon, so the Q can rest from being the daily driver until its rehabed

Good luck with the fixing
