Car: 2001 Nissan Pathfinder 3.5 LE!

Post

Hey everyone, I just got back from a week long trip and went to go fire up the Pathfinder for tonight's follies (ie School). It barely started, which I expected, it needs a new battery. It also runs like garbage doing the whole loss of power thing between 3-5k, which I'm pretty sure I've pinpointed to a bad MAF (tried one from eBay works better, but cuts my fuel economy by 2-3 MPG, I think I just need to buy a Nissan one). There is a really loud screeching coming from the engine when it warms up which I think I've pinpointed to a bad fan clutch. What I wasn't expecting was a cracked coil spring in the front driver's side! It looks completely busted, kind of just sitting there. How important is it that I get this fixed? I mean I plan on probably bringing it in very very soon, but I'm just wondering if it's okay to drive in the mean time? I don't want to get in an accident or damage the car further. For getting this truck a little under a year ago from a Nissan dealership, it sure has some issues sometimes.
It's a 2001 Pathfinder LE 3.5V6 4WD.
Anyone know where I can pick up that MAF sensor for cheaper than $650? LOL! I heard the Maxima one's work? I just don't want to spend $200-$250 and figure out this new one shaves 2-3MPG off my fuel economy as well!

You can use this part for your MAF sensor; search Maxima MAF and you'll find many topics discussing this.

Ah thank you so much! I remember reading those posts. No diminished fuel economy right? And it works with the 3.5? Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure it works identically to the OEM PF MAF. Just plug it in and you're done. I'd wait for someone more knowledgeable to chime in before purchasing anything, of course.

Busted spring! If you see it, know that it is completely broken into 2 separate pieces, then leave it alone. The big piece is now your spring, and if your vehicle is sitting about what it was before a broken spring and you have no ill effects as to suspension, bounce and tire ability leave it until you are ready to replace.

I have driven cars and trucks with busted springs, most people are not aware of it until the mechanic finds it in an inspection.

Very very soon should do you for your time interval for getting it replaced, go to a wrecker and find a set. Measure the relaxed length and compare to the book. Your 01 may need both sides, and your 01 is 10 years old so a wrecked 01 with good springs is a good deal.
