You could start by freshening it up. Replace the probably worn bushings with polyurethane, lower ball joints if they are worn, maybe an LSD if you don't have one, chassis stiffening, and if you are going to lower it I think you need to add rear camber adjustability. Someone will have to elaborate/correct me because I'm not lowering mine so I haven't learned much about what is involved with that. That's by no means meant to be a complete checklist of things you should do, just a few random thoughts. Basically, what I'm saying is concentrate on details now to get it ready for your coilovers. Do a lot of research before you buy any parts. Figure out what you want your car to do, why you need a certain part, and exactly what it does. None of this sounds as exciting as, say, shiny new coilovers(except the LSD if you aren't equiped but you wil feel a big difference.
